2019-2020 TV Season Thread
#1
Does this even exist anymore, this TV season?

Sure. I've set my DVR to record many bad shows. And what I've learned from what I've seen is like when there are a bunch of artists in a band that have all gone solo, much like TV networks have their own streaming services. The solo artists never bring their best material for the band albums, they save them for their solo projects.

The Unicorn
Hapless man uses friends to help him find a new bang buddy. I love Walton Goggins, but just no.

Sunnyside
A terrible city councilman gets fired and needs to find a new job. His new job is helping immigrants pass their citizenship exams. It's like a civics lesson only less funny.

Perfect Harmony
A music teacher turns a bunch of country bumpkins in a church choral group into a great choir in the first episode alone. I love Bradley Whitford, but just no. Maybe.

Evil
A believer, a non-believer, and a scientist investigate demonic possessions. It had some creepy twists but it was kind of slow going until Michael Emerson shows up (Think Lost and Person of Interest) Because he adds a whole new twist.

Prodigal Son
Forensic Investigator seeks help from incarcerated serial killer to solve crimes. The best part, they are father and son. And yes, they say Prodigal Son in the pilot so drink. Did the producers of this show think we hadn't seen Silence of the Lambs? It does have it's moments and I will watch more

Stumptown
Colbie Smulders is the worst/best private investigator ever. Her fight scenes and there are many fights scenes are the best because they show Smulders has more enthusiasm than skill when throwing blows to the dome. She wins her fights but not by much. She is such a car wreck. It's probably my favorite of the new shows.

Batwoman
Pretty typical origin story. I still want someone to explain why Batman has left the city for three years. There are Daddy issues. There are love interest issues. There's a VO from Rachel Maddow as radio host Vesper. It's kind of stupid. The Batwoman outfit looks terrible as if they put a bowling ball on Batwoman's shoulders. Didn't grab me but might watch more. The villain Alice was good

Robot Chicken
It seems to get less funny every year. Maybe I'm too old and just don't get the kids humor these days?

The Rookie is back. I still like it. Fillion lost a lot of weight and looks much better. I can't wait for Brooklyn 99 to return. Modern Family is good as ever.

I got nuthin now.  Still sloggin thru GoT.  Waiting for the new ST series to debut, and maybe Mandalorian if my pirates can outsmart D+.

Been meaning to watch Cobra Kai,Warrior and Seis Manos, but just haven't got around to them yet.

Been thinking I should watch Batwoman.  I don't know why.  Loyalty to Adam West?  I'd put Yvonne Craig over Ruby Rose any day.

It's all about Stumptown at this point. Although, I'm enjoying Evil as well.

I saw Batwoman. It seemed to be the same ol, same ol, but with more Lesbians! One of the Queen's main reasons for seeing it was the Rachel Maddow VO as Vesper.

Sitcoms continue to be annoying. Last night was Carol's Second Act. It would have been perfect for the early 1990s. Three cameras and a really loud laugh track.

I'm down with more lesbians.

I'd like to see Rachel act too, but I feel she's got more important work to do, especially now.

I might tune in for CW's "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover in the Arrowverse, especially if the Burt Ward rumor is true.

I just watched the premiere because my GoT was crashing. I do like Ruby Rose, and I do like lesbians, but I really want to see a female heroine that has no love interest at all. That would work so much better, be so much more liberating.  It was too obvious for me - the bat cave entrance, the relationship to the villainess, the traitor crow.  I did like the villainess, but not enough to stay tuned in.  Didn't notice Rachel's VO. I prefer the animated Batwoman.

Emergence and Watchmen

We finally caught episode 2 of Watchmen. Boy is that show slow. I really don't know what they are trying to do here and through two episodes I still don't know. It's set 20 years or so after the original Watchmen and to be honest I can't remember enough of the original Watchmen to know the tie-ins. I think Jeremy Irons plays one of the guys from the original series. Dr. Manhattan is still on Mars, as well. But at this point it's just really ponderous. I'm pretty sure the Queen will give me the icepick to the ear if I play another episode.

Emergence
This one has been sitting on the DVR. It was one of the new shows. I have heard nothing about it. We watched it last night and all I can say is I'm sorry I waited. It was really good. Lots of strangeness going on. A plane crashes. The local female sheriff finds a young survivor. Weird things happen with the investigation of the crash. There's a lot of loose interesting threads. And I want to know more. I think of all the new shows, this is the most engaging one. And before you fall out of your chairs, I recommend you watch it.

So, you hate it?
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

Not if you watch it while I’m in Chicago enjoying Pequods with the podcasters.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Or while you're napping in the Serenity Space.  Who knows what Greg watches when you're there?  Ice-pick-to-the-ear free.

Odd trivia - Whenever I think of ice picks, I think of ice pick lobotomies.  It was a grisly practice when lobotomies were more routine around WWII.  You take an ice pick and insert it in the thin skull of orbital gap, just above the eye, and then wiggle it back and forth to slash up the frontal lobe.  It was also referred to as the windshield wiper lobotomy because there was a specific ice-pick like tool that had a windshield-wiper-like blade to do the slashing.

You can't do an ice pick lobotomy via the ear.

4 years of college and 2 years of grad school in psych and this is what I think about when I hear ice picks.

Crisis on Infinite Earths

I've given up on the CW DC universe at this point. They got very dull and whiny. I might watch some more of Batwoman, but that one is especially whiny and the pink hair throws me.

That being said, I'll be watching Crisis on Infinite Earths which starts this Sunday. I have no good reason for this.

I'm only in if Cat Grant comes back.   Tell me if she makes a cameo, mmkay?
