Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota (The Man Who Feels No Pain)
#1
A friend of mine, Eric Jacobus, was the action director for this rather odd Bollywood flick. At best, I'd call it a Bollywood martial arts rom-com.  The hero has a medical condition and cannot feel pain.  He idolizes the Karate Man, a one-legged fighter who's brother is a fine villain, and his student is the hero's childhood sweetheart engaged to a cad who promises to take care of her ailing mom. There's a subplot about necklace thieves and vengeance, but mostly it's irreverent comedy dosed with moments of poignancy. And of course, there's gratuitous slo-mo.  So much slo-mo. It's like a 2.25 hour flick but if there was no slo-mo, it'd probably be just and hour and a half. The action is mostly one-move/one-cut but there's some decent aerial moves, caught in dynamic slo-mo.  There were definitely some good moments, and even a few street scenes that brought me back to my month-and-a-half living in India.  It's an odd film, almost reminded me of mou lei tau in its humor.  Not particularly DOOM recommended, even for fellow Bollywood fans and cf.  It took me over a week to watch it because I kept falling asleep - not because it was boring (well, the slo-mo got exhausting) but because I've been going so hard and not sleeping well.
