What's up with tg?
#1
No where near DM's trials, but I too am back at mom's (my mom's, not his mom's)...

My landlord jacked up my rent 35% in Feb. I knew it was coming. They gave me notice last fall, before the rent control initiative was up for vote on the ballot, but that really pissed me off. I have a litany of complaints, but suffice it to say, the rent was low enough, that as a place to store my stuff during daylight hours while I was at work, and to shelter me a night when I wasn't, it was ok. Now, not so much. My GF bought a place in Marina, next to Ft. Ord, so I've been staying there on the weekends. It just didn't seem worth it.

My mom has a guest room that's always unoccupied, so I asked her about staying and she was happy to have me.

I haven't given notice yet (probably this week), but I've been moving everything out either into this room, or to Marina.

On the plus side, my commute is ~20 min each way. I've missed most of the upside down vehicles on 17 the past few weeks.

My mom is really happy to have me. She rarely stops talking to me about pot holders & trivets, or the dogs, or the lawn, or the bird feeder, or ...

She's also making dinner every night. I really appreciate it, but I guess my tastes have changed since I was a teenager living there before. Tonight, we got to see vegetables!

This room was "the sewing room" when I was a kid. Then it became the guest room, except for the short period after my sister's first divorce when she moved back home. It has a bit of a life-fail connotation which has been poking me in the back of the mind. I'm fighting that feeling knowing that I'm going to save a lot of money on rent and transportation. That she's going to need more help as time goes by (I already had to help her up from a fall once which was a challenge for both of us). And that I'm going to help her purge the house of a lot of my dad's old crap. BTW: My mom only reads mysteries. There is an entire bookshelf of science fiction / fantasy that's up for grabs. I'm going to put the books in a box soon. If any of you are interested, please let me know. Lots of classics. I think there's even a copy of "Bored of the Rings".

Back to the room...it was frilly and full of dog paraphernalia. The bed is an antique twin. After a week of hitting my head and/or feet on the metal bars, I finally told my mom that I needed to get rid of the frame. I spent the rest of the night vacuuming. I wrote some graffiti in the dust on the boxspring with the vacuum. It was pretty bad. I'd already been staying in there for a week. Now that I've vacuumed and put in the HEPA filter, it seems to be somewhat tamed.

It's getting packed to the gills with my junk, but the closet in here is full of my mom's stuff. Hoping I would say no, she asked if she needed to clear out the closet for me. (Note: this is a 4 bedroom house with a large garage and a large den which is used as a warehouse).

I need to start watching "Tidying Up" on Neflix with my mom...(though I think she's already on board with purging)

DM - good luck to you. I work over by Costco in Svale. If you want to get together some evening during the work week and take a breather, let me know.

PS: Is anyone shopping for a Cal King mattress? We bought a nice one 6 months ago for Marina, but with the studio going away, we're bringing the one from there down and we have a spare now.

Wow, TG! That is a big change, but mostly a good one, I think. Rent in the area is clearly rediculous, so it is a win/win for you and Mom. I look forward to the multi-chapter story of Marie Kondo vs TG’s Mom.

You still have two wheels or are you four wheels only?
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

Took the 2 wheels out yesterday to work and back to celebrate the time change. (Also, they are doing major construction on 3 sides of our building and recently took away 2 of our parking lots, so parking is at an extreme premium. On the bike, I was able to park next to the front door, rather than a mile away and having to rely on a shuttle to get to the office. Oh, and commuter lanes...I managed to get out of the house by 8:30am and catch the commuter lane at Lawrence and 280. So I was actually moving and when traffic wasn’t, I could lane split to the front of the line. On my Santa Cruz commute, I wouldn’t hit that door until after 9am (no commuter lanes south of there, or on 17)

All in all, it was a good day.

The duck is parked in the garage next to the Model A (amid piles of scrap wood and tools - I also need to clean out the garage)

Cycle therapy good.

PS: speaking of 2 wheels, we bought 2 of these last year and have been exploring Ft. Ord. They’re like off-road mopeds. Miles and miles of trails and paved roads with no cars. Lots of fun! You can rent the same bike in PG, just past the aquarium at the outlet center for $20/hr. https://www.radpowerbikes.com/products/r...c-fat-bike

Aren't you still working in the Orchard? Haven't they moved you to the spaceship, yet?
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

damn tg.  i so feel ya.

i can't remember - your 'rents house is in toga or tino?

my mom has a sewing room.  it got shifted to bills desk #2, then the upstairs tv room because it's warmer in winter.  but i needed the xfinity jack to set up wifi so now it's the wifi room and some storage/overage from cleaning crap out.

maybe we could catch a moment later some evening.  my mom is put to bed around 8ish.  i'm not staying up that late now though because i get up around 6...when i'm not already up at 4:20.

Sorry to confuse. I meant about work...

My mom's is over by MVHS. DM - let's play it by ear. My schedule is a bit of a mess living in two households. I have to go back to the studio tomorrow to try to sell my fridge.

Ah gotcha. I confuse easily nowadays. Very confuzzled.

Let’s def play it by ear because my schedule is a mess too. It would be good to commiserate about being back at the ‘rents trying to cope with Si valley (hellmouth) again after being cast out of eden (Monterey Bay).

TG, you are in Cupertino some? Let's get together sometime. (I'm over by the Rosicrucian Museum.) I've been meaning to contact you for a while, but going to Santa Cruz is a pain for me because my free time on the weekends is limited.

I'm around on the weekdays. It would be great to catch up after work.

Would you be interested in California Guitar Trio? They're playing at the Sunnyvale Community Center next Thurs, 4/4: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4069757

I haven't been there in ages...

Have to see about that. We're on Spring Break and I took the week off. And I just found out that they're giving us a half day Friday!
