Saoirse...
Margot...
swordfightin...
...in a pool of nacho sauce.
Yeah, that didn't happen. I had my fantasies, but no, so few of them are actualized or the cheese industry would skyrocket
An Irish woman plays a Scottish queen. An Australian woman plays a British queen. But it's Saoirse & Margot so it's all good.
It's a tour de force for Saoirse, but keep in mind that I've met her, interviewed her, sat at a table about a yard away from her, stared into those amazingly blue Irish eyes, and she surely stole my heart like some kind of mystic kelpie or something. Margot goes to great lengths to uglify herself - a prosthetic nose, pox scarring, some really weird hairdos... didn't Nicole Kidman do that once too? Maybe it's an Oz super gorgeous actress thing. Like marrying short egomaniac scientologist vampires instead of cool dms. Whatev. Margot delivers too. This is a saga of women in power in the world of men. My wife and daughter loved it. I enjoyed it, but was unsure about there being crazy rich Asians and Africans that close to royalty back then. The sexual politics were harsh. There was a lot of sword wearin and one decent battle scene. Saoirse had really hot armor, although that didn't look historically or culturally accurate. But who cares? That's not what this film is about. It all comes down to their one scene together - and they were kept separate in real life while filming to add to the tension. It's a good scene - might even get Oscar nods.
Lots of spectacular panoramic country shots. Some nice castles too. It amuses me how filmmakers envision castles to be in ruins back then.
