The Turtles have always been an enigma to me. They had 5 huge hits in the '60s but are delegated to 'one-hit wonder' status.
They played with Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and were invited to the White House. We all know their songs "Happy Together" and "Eleanore" (and others as I discovered watching the documentary). But now we know of them from occasional 'Flo and Eddie' concert.
The two films (sort of) explained why The Turtles aren't remembered like "The Mamas and Papas" or "Big Brother and the Holding Company". Basically it comes down to image. The two lead singers weren't traditionally good-looking, they were kind of goof-balls like "The Monkees" and they weren't controversial.
I was fascinated by both films and recommend them (especially "My Dinner with Jimi") for anyone curious about the 1960's pop music scene.
