Okay, I thought the original was a great movie and couldn't fathom why they would make a remake.
I might have to rethink my negative stance after seeing this trailer.

Back to my original impression of why make a remake after seeing this film.
Where to start?
They should have called this movie something else and distanced themselves from the iconic original. I loved the original and this film pales in comparison. The bad guys needed to be badder. They needed more Robocop doing robocop stuff. And where was the biting satire of the original. I missed the meanness of the original, the spitting the blood onto the reports and asking for a lawyer. He's a cop killer. It just missed so much from the first one. Where is the wickedness?
And because I'm a stereotypical racist, I couldn't tell the good black cop apart from the bad black cop. I apologize. The set up also took too long to get to Murphy being the Robocop. It was more of a film about Gary Oldman building a robot than it was about a robot patrolling the streets. Detroit wasn't near as squalid as it should have been. Which is saying a lot since look how far Detroit has fallen in the last twenty years. And the transformation of Murphy into Robocop was so much more fun in the first one. They also mangled some of the iconic lines from the first one. It was all so sad.
Let me put it this way. Watch the first one and pretend this one doesn't exist. Not even a great sword fight would have saved this.
