This has been going on in some form or another since the 1960's that I know of. Mt. Julius Palfry-Alpar had classes going at UC Berkeley back then for the blind back then and most recently Mt. Eric Sollee has been teaching classes for the blind probably at the very school in Mass. that this is taking place (Eric died last year).
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.
