Cirque Du Soliel - Kooza
#1
I'm a Cirque addict. After being at the Ka premiere (the best party ever - see http://brotherhoodofdoom.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=275) I'm always going to enjoy Cirque. That being said, the new show Kooza was totally entertaining. It's not innovative Cirque. More of the same really. The 'story' motif was rather mediocre, sort of Cat in the Hat - a stranger delivers a box to a little kid and out pops thing 1 and thing 2 and a bunch of other things. There's a lot of clowning improv, but the schill in the audience is no longer convincing. The music is lackluster - same as it ever was. There's a cool snakey threesome of female contortionists which really impressed Dm, until Mrs. Dm, ever the yoga teacher, decoded there act into 'lots of backbends done in different arrangements'. Some interesting trapeze work - the high wire fencing was silly but might amuse this set. The Chinese chair balancing act has been done to death. The weird double wheel act is ripped from KA. The pickpocket was ok, but the schill factor made it hard to beleive. All the acts had their incredible moments, but the show stealer was the juggler. Best. Juggler. Ever. This guy was doing 7's with balls and rings, outrageously smooth pattern transitions, contact juggling, so fast and graceful - it totally blew me away. The juggler is worht the price of admission alone.

We wound up after in Japantown at a restaurant called Kazoo. Kooza - Kazoo and only T noticed the coincidence.
