NTTG 2026
Just an extra week. She needed to come home, unpack from moving out of the rabbit hutch back to my childhood home, and get ready to start work in a few weeks.

I worked all day then went to a beginning yoga class with Stacy that just started with this teacher we know well - she’s a friend of Stacy’s and helped walk Yuki when I was in Japan and Stacy’s shoulder went out. It was 110 so it was a restorative class, which was perfect because I haven’t done any yoga in weeks. Only 4 of us made it to class. Then after it cooled down I walked Yuki who was still really hot because he’s so furry but he did his business copiously and then was happy to go home quickly.

It was hotter temperature wise that Japan, but it wasn’t 90% humidity, so it felt cooler.  Should’ve got myself more pocari sweat.

It’s a triple telemeet Thursday starting early in the morn, then I must go back to Tiger Claw for a photo shoot (I should stop at svale on the way because I forgot to search for a photo that would sit well in an article I just finished in my album cache there), then back to the Cruz for iai, where I will be distrusting some gifts I brought back from Japan for my dojo mates. The TC trip will be rugged in this heat wave.

Never trust gifts from Japan. It's the law!
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

Got an interview with a new author that just kinda puts me off with his weird vibe. We’ve only emailed so far but he’s already feeling too woo-woo-ish. I should read his book first thing tomorrow, or at least skim it in prep.

Then it’s all about writing, all weekend long. I should hit up TJs for some supplies and get my A1C tested while downtown (Kaiser is just down the street from TJs). There’s a free beach reggae on Moe’s beach which is just on the other side of Murray bridge but that’s closed for years so I’d have to go all the way around. I might. Free reggae on the beach sound irie and I’m overdue for my bass dose.

I had a decent Kung Fu workout but got frustrated watching them teach. The teaching method there is sorely lacking since Ted had his stroke and Nick just isn't ready yet. He hasn't been hit enough. It's such secluded school that no one challenges them so they've lost their edge. I just do my thing and try not to rock the boat, but I'm starting to feel like I'll have to for them to keep their authenticity. It's a weird conundrum with my practice nowadays.

Now I'm writing. I hope to churn out two articles this weekend - one feature and one column.

Tonight I was thinking about seeing Hidden Fortress playing at SC Cinema. They've been doing special one-off showings of classic chanbara flicks, and this one was the one that inspired Star Wars. I can't remember ever seeing it on the big screen. But I think I might walk Yuki instead and shoot for Tiger's Tale at the Crow's Nest. It's a lame venue (unless it's the beach party, which this isn't) but TT is a local Garcia tribute band that usually plays Felton and I haven't seen them yet. I doubt I'll take the Harbor Taxi, although that is a good suggestion. I'm gonna want my chariot in case I want to bail early. Plus I'll want to get home to write more - no time to waste.

Made a run up to SF as sort of a belated birthday excursion. Christina wanted to go to Heath for a wedding gift so we started there. Wanted to get coffee at Tartine, but the line was too long, so headed back to the car and found a little place called Industrial Craft. it's not exactly a coffee place; it looks like some sort of other business is in the back. Coffee was good though.

Next went over to North Beach. Parking was luckily not too hard but we were a bit out of our way. Of course now I had to pee from the coffee, so swung by the park for the public toilet, which was not as disgusting as I expected - I've seen worse at concerts. Wanted to hit Liguria bakery for focaccia, but it was just past noon and they were closed. Ducked into Goorin Bros. hat shop (I owned one years ago) and discovered that they are now much too high end for me. Then to City Lights; For quite a while I've wanted a copy of their Pocket Poets Anthology but never see a used one. Didn't look around much otherwise because it was crowded. Wanted to get a sandwich from Molinari but it was much too crowded, so went home.

If I can get my act together early I could make yoga. Stacy’s shoulder injury and my break from Japan has derailed our practice, then the rest of the day is writing. Final polish on the column, then get a good chunk of the feature and prep an awkward ezine piece. Hope to finish two movies I’ve started, a Thor & a Shaw brothers.
