Nose to the grindstone 2025
(02-12-2025, 12:19 PM)Greg Wrote: Finally, I am done with the eulogy. That wasn't a pain in the ass at all.

I've written a few of those but never for a parent. And I never will. Both my parents requested no funeral and no memorial of any kind. They see it as a waste of money and effort. That's why they set up the Neptune Society for themselves. I'm grateful I suppose. There was never much closure with my dad's passing but since his death took over a decade, when he finally passed, there wasn't much more to say.

I've tried to sign in on your mom's obituary but it's rejected me a couple times now. I'm guessing it's your mother's spirit blocking me because she thinks I'm Greg Chow. And we all know it was that Greg who stole those book tapes back in the day...

Wrangle the cats for final family photo in the house. Shuffle flowers from funeral home to church to event room to cemetery. Give Eulogy. Eat a stupid amount of food. Continue to not kill family.

Hope you're catching a break from the storm for the service. It's stopped raining here for the moment.

1 of 4 meetings down for today. Also got to run an errand downtown. Then Iaido tonight. I picked up a new bokken at Tiger Claw on Tuesday and I'm eager to see how it performs.

Morning Verve run & yoga done. Valentines gifts exchanged (Stacy got me a Redbreast 12 & new underwear - she still gets me). Now to work a bit, then pick up a cake for tomorrow, then work some more. There's a couples yoga class this afternoon but I might opt to walk Yuki. I'll probably binge some movie tonight although I've been contemplating rewatching 100 Yards and just fast forwarding to the fight scenes.

Today is Stacy’s birthday so we’re off to SF for a day of celebration with our daughter.

Yoga done - tough class today. Enjoying a late breaky of blueberries, granola and homemade kefir
(Latest Yuki thang - we’re experimenting with a raw food diet). Kefir is yum. Then laundry & dog walking. Might write.

I love kefir. How do you make it? Do you use a culture starter and add it to milk?

Ya. Our neighbor shared some of his culture starter and we just made our first batch last week. Well, Stacy made it and Yuki and I ate it. it goes well with my morning fruit & granola and doesn't trigger my lactose intolerance because the milk sugar has changed. Plus the probiotics are always welcome. Is that what you do? How long have you been eating it?

Slogged through my two monster meetings today and got caught up with my spam programming. Didn't do any writing, atomic bomb receiving or anything over Sunday. Just napped with my dog and did a lot of laundry. He's scratching at the door now because it's almost time for walkies.

I should probably check out that SNL 50 thing tonight as there's so much buzz about it on my iPhone news programming.

I just get it the Trader Joe's kefir, although I think the Whole Foods brand is better, but more expensive and we very rarely go there. I've been drinking it off and on for years, more steadily in the past year. I usually just drink some with breakfast. After dinner I eat some kimchi for another probiotic.

Heading to big Kaiser to see a man about my shoulder. Then back to the Lair to make castle Lynch phone calls.

One meeting down, one to go, then over to svale for my mom, then writing tonight. Might try to catch Ne Zha in svale but it's playing here in the Cruz too, so might wait. Next week is Legends of Condor Heroes: The Gallants which is Tsui Hark directed. If I go, it'll be like going to that svale theater every week in Feb.

I have 2 meetings for Immortal. I’ve agreed to an additional role there. I’ll head home in between - there’s a day’s work to be done. Tried to write for the last two hours and made minimal progress. My concept for the piece is morphing into something quite different than I initially conceived but maybe that’s a different article than this one. Fortunately I have some wiggle room on this one deadline-wise.

It’s weird not to have some feature percolating for KFM. I’ve always had back burner pieces for the last quarter century. But now I’m in this holding pattern with those that’s blocking my process, cock blocking my muse. Or maybe the political turmoil is jamming my brain. It’s deepening my desire to be subversive but subliminally so. And that’s making me over think, like adding too much turmeric to the stew.
