Roberta has power of attorney for everything. She carries the paper with her now everywhere they go.

If that's not registered with Medicare, it doesn't count. I have all that too.
There's a process that needs to be taken care of before Medicare recognizes POA. I will, of course, keep you updated to my progress with this. I advise that you double check with Medicare.

At work. Taking a break to put a couple of drawings into my sketchbook, then going to the post office. Then some work to do. I need to write some Thank You cards tonight.

My mom's PoA only gave me power if she was incapacitated and when I was dealing with the SS, they wouldn't accept the PoA unless there was a doctor's note following an exam. --tg
I remember trying to go to the Social Security office for my mom. The agent told me he couldn't help me, but that she could go online set up an account. He made it pretty clear he meant me and not her.

Gotta be tough work. When I was a med lab carrier, my route was senior care centers in Palo & Mtn V. I went dozens a day and saw about a body a week. It was exhausting psychically.
Of the 6 Medicare & med advantage agents I spoke to over the last few days, most were helpful, the last one was the best. And one was a total bitch. I’ll double check contingencies but I’m pretty sure there weren’t any. My mom is totally complaint at this time so it’s not an issue.

Tomorrow I head home for mostly a writing day. One phone appt. Gotta prep for next week.
Yesterday Stacy went to see her Thai masseur who’s been trying to get her into a cooking class. She brought home some delish Thai curry as a sample. Stacy’s looking into taking the class. I don’t really cook so such a class would be lost on me - but I hope she takes it, ya know? Also Marukai changed its name to Tokyo Central, which isn’t nearly as exotic sounding.

When I went to the dentist last week I saw a Tokyo Central at Stevens Creek and Blaney, where the Longs used to be, behind where the Elephant Bar used to be, across from where the Japanese fruit/veg place used to be (can't remember the name of that one). In the "Merlion plaza" with the goofy statue. I want to check it out but haven't had a chance yet.
Starting to prep for my Friday colonoscopy, so no fiber. I figure if I peel an apple at lunch it's okay.

Marukai is a Japanese franchise in the US that just rebranded. The word 'marukai' means something like 'market center' so I get the shift - it's much easier. Lots of interesting Japanese imports. One of the best places for instant noodles (that's not a Chinese market) and a fascinating booze selection. The Merlion (that statue) is the national mascot of Singapore. The Singa in Singapore is related to the Singha in Singha beer; it's a mythical lion. I kinda like that statue but its probably due to fond associations with my stay in Singapore. There are Merlions everywhere there, right next to the 'No spitting or durians" signs. (01-08-2025, 11:36 AM)King Bob Wrote: Starting to prep for my Friday colonoscopy, so no fiber. Spent the afternoon going back over a datrabase I last worked on over a year ago. I had to make some changes to the processing code and it took quite a while. Then started to put some new data in there. Monday I'll streamline the update process so I can batch process all the rest of it.

I think they specialized in remainders…I think she worked there after her stint at the Games Galore in Valley Fair…I think GG was next to the knife store where The Yeti worked…Where the Doom Parker Brothers knives came from? Around ‘85, my friend Jerry worked at the Software Etc in the B. Dalton there. He got a Mac SE and would bring home software. i’d go over to his house and write papers on it…got me started on Macs and look where I am today. He’s a hoopy frood. If we ever do a real gathering, I should invite him. I think you all would like him… —tg

My Cutlery Daze were in the late 80’s at Serramonte in Daly City.
THat remainder bookstore could have been a Half Price Books…?
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

Merlion FTW!
![]() One telemeeting down. One more to go. then I won't have to think about telemeetings for a week. Yay! Tonight is our Iaido New Years ritual - 1000 cuts. I dusted off my yixing tea set for the occasion. It's a beautiful set, gifted to me by some Kung Fu master that embarrassingly I don't remember. Never been used. I won't be doing a full Gongfu cha because I won't have all the necessary tools (a tea table) plus I haven't practiced Gongfu cha in years. Also got some mochi. That elicited my Merlion Tokyo Central trip on Tuesday.

Today I have a few dangling work items to tie up before vacation, laundry & packing. It should be an easy pack - don’t need much. I’ll need to make a drug store run, and maybe REI to use a $20 off $50 coupon that expires this weekend. Beyond that, spending some quality time with Yuki before leaving.
