That was one of the qualities of Into the Badlands <
http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...p?tid=3994 >
While it didn't go into great detail about things like who made all the costumes, the Barons were each in control of certain resources and some of the intrigue was the political struggles between rival barons to get their shares. But I distinctly remember Nick Frost bringing up this exact point in interview. He asked 'who are the candlemakers?' or something along those lines. I can't remember now if I used that quote - I do remember debating over it - and I wrote so much about Badlands that I'm not going to go back to try and find it now...

E4 and a major confrontation is brewing between the first men (maga metaphor) and some mercs with planes. There’s a possible cure for the Sick (pandemic metaphor). And there’s dissension within imprisoned hybrid kids.
I’m watching too many series right now. I need to finish some before I get too confused.

E5 Everyone makes their moves and the battles go off.
E6 A happy ending … but wait! There’s two more eps!

E7: Well I stand corrected. There was more story to tell. The backstory is filled in including an explanation of sorts for the Grateful Dead references. Or maybe just another gd reference. The name Gus is explained. It also set up for the final finale.
E8: The finale finally. The big showdown was satisfying. The baddies get what they deserve. The inevitable death, plus a Disney death. And it’s set up for next season, not with some major cliffhanger, more of a tease of what the 3rd final season will bring.
Overall enjoyable. Not astoundingly awesome, but a mellow adventure with a smattering of violence and brutality, offset by a bunch of cute mutant hybrid kids. A pleasant shift from my usual diet of psychotropic ultravi. It’s relatively tame and benign. There’s a certain optimism with Gus that’s soothing. Definitely a post-pandemic post-maga tale as there are many translucent metaphors.
Not particularly D00M recommended but not to be D00M avoided. If you’re interested, check it out. If not, don’t bother.

The catch up wrap of 'previously on sweet tooth' had a lot of stuff I didn't remember at all. Typical. I thought I was paying attention, but once again, nope, not at all.
But I kinda remember where this left off so it picked up pretty quickly.
Right when Cara 'Yeti Fetish' Gee first appears, the Grateful Dead comes on the jukebox. And of course, the bulk of the episode is set in a casino.
Who are the Grateful Dead and why are they following me?
I'm still spinning, obvs, spinning from the sphere.
Picture a bright blue ball just spinning, spinning free
Dizzy with eternity

S3e2: a bit of a filler ep for Gus & the crew but the Alaska arc moves forward. I thought Cara was done after the last ep because it looked like we were going to follow Birdie (Gus’s mom). But no, quite the opposite. We’re going to follow Cara and I’m here for that. Cara plays a colony leader and a mom. It’s a developing character so far but a good showcase for Cara’s acting chops. She couldn’t be farther from Drummer.

3 more eps in. I was only going to watch one but it got good.
Rosalind Chao and Kelly Marie Tran are complicated dysfunctional mother/daughter villainesses and I’m here for that. Like with Cara, their roles are very different than what we’ve seen from them before and they’re killin it.
E4 was rough - a major bummer in tone but well executed and Christian Convery (who plays the titular Gus) delivers a powerfully emotional scene. Everything hinges on his performance and he sells it well, an actor to watch. Despite the dark feel of this ep, it delivers an uplifting ending.
E5 and we’re finally in Alaska. Only 3 more eps to go.

And we’re done.
Poignant conclusion - damning for us humans and rightly so yet uplifting in a strange way. A beautiful moral and many ideas complete the circle. I felt it stuck the landing but the conclusion is edgy and there’s a whole lot of deus ex machina saves and Disney deaths to get there. Ultimately I’ll allow because the ultimately ending resonated well with me.
My only complaint is that it should've ended with a dead tune - Eyes of the world or Brokedown palace might’ve worked.
Not D00M recommended because it’s 3 seasons to engage and I feel it works best if you watch it all.
