Sheltering in Place
Head to big Kaiser so the Queen can have a medical procedure. Good times.

Uh oh. Hope all is well.

Today starts with yoga then goes into a mostly writing day - one small rote task then 2 articles to complete. Coughing up a lot of allergy casualties this morning. Stacy says it sounds like a new cough, in contrast to all my old coughs. Keeping it fresh here.

Quiet day at work - no classes today and Monday is the last day of classes before finals.

I just found out that I won an outstanding staff member award. Hopefully there's a gift and not just a certificate. Our department admin won one a few years ago, and he is incompetent, so it's not really a big deal. (He actually won outstanding staff member in the College of Humanities and there is a cash award for that. I don't know what I won.) But there will be a get together with free snacks, so that's something anyway.

That one small rote task exploded because something went awry in my powerpoint where I could not update my inserted excel graphs (this is for my monthly YMAA report). I spent way too much time trying to sort it, looking at tutorials online and reading up on forums, none of which provided a solution. For some reason, the way I've been updating this file for 2 years now suddenly doesn't work.

Then on a hunch, I sent my powerpoint file over to my PC. It worked fine there. Stupid Mac.

So I'm finally getting to writing after a nearly 3 hour delay. It's always that way with writing. Always something in the way...

Yesterday (Friday) was the usual breakfast with H, then shop, then teaching assault & stabbery. The nuances were that breakfast for H was almost her first solid food since food-poisoning laid her out on Wednesday (and Thursday, too, but she still managed to go to work). Breakfast/coffee = success. The shop was on the quiet side, which is still nice and not worrying. Teaching was also quiet as there was another tournament (this time in San Diego) that drew a significant portion of our kids.

A colleague from another club visited, which is always nice; don’t get a chance to talk shop with other people in “The Life”. Me, H, colleague, and coworker went out for a nice dinner afterwards. H just nibbled from my food, still on the mend. It was 70 degrees & sunny at the beach. A nice day.

The solar flares! That’s what I’m blaming yesterday’s PowerPoint chicanery and ontraport shenanigans on (and I’m very disappointed not to see any aurora pix from the lair).

Today is Kung Fu and maybe some writing catch up. Then dog parkn and maybe some sauna.

Today is both Salvador Dali's birthday (also Irving Berlin, not as exciting) and the anniversary of Bob Marley's death.

Going to Michael's to get a new sketchbook. Some friends coming for dinner, so we'll head over to Pints of Joy (Indian ice cream shop on El Camino near Remington, very good) to pick up a pint or two for dessert.

I didn't really celebrate either. But noted.

It's foggy so there's no aurora viewing here in c-brite. A friend in Felton posted some pix of a faint purple pink glow. I'm just hoping my PowerPoint and Ontraport weirdness yesterday were caused by the solar flares.

Today I have yoga and some writing to finish. Got one of my two due articles done and sent already and most of the heavy lifting done on the second article whilst listening the my buddy DJ Spleece's reggae show on the squid. Glad I got a jump on it. Makes today much easier.

I went out at 11:30pm last night to look for glow and was rewarded with starry skies. C'est la vie.

A day of dog walks and filling the bird feeders and mowing the wild bits to prevent forest fires.

Organizing and signing my collages and prepping my display for the open studio. DM - sorry you can't make it; we need to get together. I'm off Thursday 5/23 which I believe is the day you come over. Listening to the Abyssinians and remembering when DM and I saw them at Reggae on the River. The song that really hit me from their performance was Abendigo.

Need to cut two limbs off a tree at the corner of the house. They are starting to throw shade on the solar panels. I'll do that about 10 to be sure I'm not disturbing the neighbors. Then I'll hit the library bookstore in Saratoga.

Abendigo is one of those heavy, heavy cuts - reggae gospel to my way of thinking. But indeed we do need to get together soon.

I come over on Tuesdays, not Thursdays, but not this upcoming week at all. Stacy & Tara are headed to Hawaii on a yoga retreat, leaving me here in the Cruz to care for Yuki. Stacy returns on the 22nd, but on the 23rd, I insert in Cali Roots.

Hopefully DM doesn't kill himself with 'cat's away' binging before that.

Looking forward to launching into summer 2024 - my schedule is ridiculous. After CR, I have only one weekend off when I'm not doing nothin until the end of August...
