Echo (2024)

Careful where you look. There is a major spoiler floating around for the upcoming series.

I purchased Disney+ and Hulu for a month so I could watch Dial of Destiny and this show.

For a sec, I thought you wrote 'luscious.'

And I thought 'finally he noticed!'

Ep01 The episode covers the origins of Echo mixed in with some of the bits from Hawkeye. Then they move post Hawkeye back to Echo's home town in Oklahoma for further adventures. There are some nice extended fights including the one I won't spoil, but you have to know by now. We see Kingpin in all his heaving glory. It's about what you would expect from the Marvel show. It all felt really familiar. Nothing stands out.

My one question is how does your prosthetic leg stay on in these big fights?

I binged all 5 episodes last night. You will have more questions before the end. The baddies at the skating rink seem particularly stupid.

I'm not sure what weapon Echo fashioned in the rink, but I'm guessing she got that skill from grandpa (Graham Green was fun in the role).

Mixed feelings about it. Nice to the the native american representation, though biscuits seems more like zach galifanikis than an indian...
The 'magic' was late and always seemed a secondary aspect of the story.

The ASL interpreter tech was cool. I would have been nice to have more stuff like that.

Don't miss the end credit scene in the final episode!

Ep02 Nice to see (not see) that Marvel still doesn't believe in using lights for night time shots. Had one nice big set piece. Biscuits is my favorite character despite the fact he's goin to get everyone killed. Graham Greene is really good in his role. Again, the show doesn't really you grab you. It seems to have all the MCU TV show tropes.

I will continue to watch just so I can get to the big Wilson Fisk spoiler all over the internet.

I agree with Tg. The whole show was a bit meh. I don't know what the point of the show was and what story they were trying to tell. Were they going for the twofer of Deaf and Native American, which they seemed to cover really well but it seemed to be window dressing for not much of a story. Echo fights with her Uncle. And they have to find more for Kingpin to do than scowl and look big.

I liked Biscuits. I liked Graham Greene. I liked the skinny bald henchman. They had the best fight in the first episode and I thought the cameo guy would come back for round two but that didn't happen.

At the end of the day, Meh.

I’m 4 eps deep on first binge. Enjoying it. That first fight sequence was insane - a complex single shot with very clever weaves and stitches. That kept me interested. The successive action and story has been petering but I admire the representation. Just as Iman is perfect for Ms Marvel, Alaqua nails Maya. She a deaf amputee native irl. Like how many of those are there that might carry this role? I like its native focus but I’m refraining from endorsement until I consult my native friends. The culture seems well represented but far be it from me to claim much knowledge of that culture.

The weirdest this is the stitch doc in ep 1. She is exactly like a doctor friend - someone who just broke from JAH med, which is a shame because she is dear to me, but it was complex SoHum politics or just emerald triangle crazies. Idk. Anyway I need to check with some others to see if they agree.

I’ll watch the final ep soon and reserve the right to pass judgement then. I really should’ve been working instead of watching this tonight…

Ok I concede. This failed to stick the landing and fell flat on its ass. Despite that amazing first ep action sequence (fast forward to that and be done), and it’s cool deaf + native + amputee repping, the finale went nowhere so I third the vote of meh.

Too bad. It had potential but just gassed out. Maybe I’ll watch that first fight again and re-ponder that stitch doc.

This was a very nice breakdown of the first big fight. Color me surprised they brought in Charlie Cox for this sequence. I figured they would just do it with the stuntman in the suit.
