Berlin e1: This probably deserves its own thread but I’m more into adding into old archives than splitting them up. Besides I think it’s only tg & me that are in on the heist.
Berlin was one of thr most compelling characters in LCdP but what made that show work was that all the characters were compelling. But Berlin was a mastermind, on par with the Professor, and yet a much darker figure, sociopathic, sexually ambiguous, domineering, sadistic and terminal. His arc in LCdP was glorious. This new show is a prequel, although there’s promise of a returning character, an inspector. The team is new, commanded by Berlin, in a heist set in the Paris catacombs. The new team is sexy and smart and already the chemistry is percolating, but they have a long way to go to catch up to LCdP. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the first ep - it’s good to be back in the heist world.

I think I’m on e6 now. It occurred to me that the city names were aliases that the Professor provided for the mint heist in Spain, so why is he already called Berlin? I should watch the beginning of LCdP again just to sort this.
This prequel series has its moments but it pales by comparison to LCdP. The characters aren’t rich enough. The style and sexiness is there, but it lacks the tension, and the cat and mouse game that was so clever. The heist is pulled off according to plan despite complications but the gang keeps breaking their own rules and opening themselves to getting busted. It’s a lot of dumb mistakes in the name of ‘love’ or just having a good time. I like the three main female characters but all the guys are losers, except Berlin, who’s not quite as psycho as in LCdP. I’ll likely see this through but it really pales by comparison.

E6: This gang is painfully dumb. All for love. Yea, whatev. They would’ve gotten away with it clean if they weren’t so love struck. And a snake bite? Srsly? But this ep got a boost from Inspector Sierra who runs the op like a queen. Been waiting for her since the trailer.
E7: penultimate ep. SPOILER ALERT (just for tg I think - is anyone else here part of the gang?) Inspector Murillo - did not see that coming from the trailers END SPOILER This ep rocked. It all built to the concluding cliffhanger with that signature Alex Peña style. The singing overlaying all the story arcs coming to a pivotal moment was like what LCdP delivered regularly, completely stealing my attention. It felt like the show finally found its stride - or perhaps Peña had only one idea - to get to this scene. Nevertheless, I’m ready for the season finale tomorrow night. Hope it’s not a cliffhanger but not holding out that much hope - that would be so Peña.

Bravo! They stuck the landing, surprisingly. And it had solid closure - no cliffhanger - but left the door ajar for another heist. Satisfying for a prequel.
Twas the final two eps that felt like Money Heist. I suspect it was only worth the whole ride for the true fans (and I can’t say that because I bailed on the Korean version). You’d probably get the same feeling if you just watch the first ep (to meet the characters and get the heist) and the last two. If you have an extra hour, watch the ep with the heist itself. I enjoyed it but it made me want to rewatch the original series because that was so tight - you can’t skip a single ep. It never took its foot of the gas.
