Blood Sugar Fun
Just got my blood work results back. My A1C crept up a bit to 6.7. Still below 7, which is good. But I don't understand the uptick. Diabetes is stupid.

any of you tried monk sugar? I hate stevia and monk sugar has a better taste. Apparently they sell a blend at Costco now (straight monk sugar can't be used 1:1, and isn't great for baking).

I just stay away from sweets in general. That’s tough outside the bungalow but I don’t really have a sweet tooth (although now that it’s forbidden to me I do get that forbidden fruit desire).

It occurred to me that when I did my last blood work, I think I was on a lot more diabetes medication. That might be why sugar was lower back then.

My problem is carbs, not sweets. Delicious, delicious, forbidden carbs.

I feel that. Man, I remember the days when carb loading was a thing. Those were the days…

Thank you, Blood Sugar Puck, for telling me I had died during the night from a blood sugar that level that was way below normal. Also thanks for sending an alarm to my phone seconds after I checked my blood sugar reading.

First day of a new puck continues to be a PITA.

Fuck the Puck. The puck alerted me three times last night that my sugar was too low via an irritatingly loud alarm. This morning when I looked at the graph of my blood sugar at no time, according to the graph, did my blood sugar warrant this alarm. I was clean and well in the limits. I knew this without checking the graph, because if my blood sugar was as low as indicated (Low 50s) I would be sweating buckets and barely able to string a thought together.

Stupid Puck.

Puck Update. It occurred to me (after only months and months of fucking alarms) that I don't have to put the puck directly on the back of my arm. If I put the puck a little to the side instead of directly on the back of the arm, I wouldn't be sleeping directly on it when I slept on my side. The last two weeks had been particularly bad. If I just looked at the puck harshly, it would set off the alarm.

I tried the new arm puck placement position yesterday when I attached the new puck. Voila! No middle of the night alarms even when I slept on that arm.

It's the little things at this point.

My A1C dropped. Yay. I'm still over 7 though. No one has suggested a puck yet.

Are you on any meds for your Diabetes? 7 seems high for a skinny little thing like yourself.

With the new iPhone OS, there were a new set of restrictions on the puck sending alarms to my phone. In order to counter that, the software for the Diabetes Puck now allows you to turn off the alarms for given periods of time. I guess they heard all the complaints about the false alarms from people sleeping on the puck. I can now turn off the puck overnight, but only for six hours which is one hour less than what I usually get for sleep. But that is better. Oddly, the first time I shut off the puck alarms, I should have gotten actual alarms for low blood sugar in the middle of the night. I lived through it.

Sadly diabetes is as much about genetics as it is about weight. I take metaformin nightly.

There is that. Have you yelled at your parents about this?
