Harley Quinn

I know, I know. I’m late to the boat on this one. Tara has been telling me to watch this for like the whole pandemic but I haven’t had Max and it seemed a trifle. But I’ve said before that to ‘get’ DC now is to watch the animated movies and I really need to listen to myself and my daughter.

I was just going to watch one ep but got sucked in and watched two. I’d binge it all if I didn’t have to get up early for a telemeet and get a crapton of work done in the next few days before my vacation. So funny, so fuckin funny, and I drop that F bomb because when it comes to this show, it’s carpet F bombing.

Kaley Cuoco voices the titular anti heroine and it’s the best work she’s done since Penny. It’s bawdy, super sanguineous, and rapid fire quipping like all adult animation is nowadays. It totally nails the spirit of the Gotham-verse in a self effacing parody way. Tudyk & Bader nail Joker & Batman in that Romero/West way, and Bell is pitch perfect for Ivy. Such wicked fun - hard R-rated dialog - I giggled and smirked a lot.

3 seasons, 13/13/10 eps under a half hour each, plus a Valentines special. S4 drops at the end of this month and I hope to be caught up by then.

D00M recommended.

2 more eps in. Still funny. Wonder Woman, Batman & Superman are in play, plus the Legion of DOOM and I’m here for it. Ivy’s Little Shop of Horrors plant Frank is killin me. Clayface too, as a pretentious actor who runs the villain bar. King Shark enters, but he’s intrinsically funny.

E3 Harley struggles to get henchmen and Lex Luther cancels Doctor Psycho from the Legion of Doom for using the C word because it’s ‘off brand’.

E4 Harley searches for a nemesis and it’s Robin? Neither are happy with that.

This show is like ST Lower Decks but for DC. So quick paced and funny. I can’t get enough.

5: Harley has a brain freeze so the squad goes into her mind via Dr Psycho’s powers. Surreal - the little Harley antibodies are the best.

6: The squad decides to rob Wayne enterprises. Clayface loses his hand which becomes a mini-me and befriends Gordon. Psycho seems his online troll the Cowled critic.

7: The Queen of Fables is released from her book curse and Harley springs her from Arkham. She joins the crew with disasterous results.

8: Harley finally makes the LOD along with her squad by stealing Aquaman’s family jewels. Ivy has an affair with kite man (srsly?). She is ashamed. Borgman’s sister is a tentacled monster.

Still quite satisfying. Each ep gets a chuckle out of me somewhere.

I finished s1. What fun. The major arcs come together nicely at the end and the humor pulls no punches. It’s one of the best depictions of the Joker ever - his sociopathic narcissism is so intense from the view of his greatest victim - Harley. The dysfunctional relationships are hysterical because there’s a genuiness behind them.

I’ll start s2 after our vacation.
