I like to pick up short novels off the new shelf in the library, and found this one, by a famous author but who I had never read.
A young seminarian owes a crime boss a lot of money. The boss offers a deal: find me the angel that your grandfather is said to have captured. From that we get some humorous musings on destiny, justice and mercy. It's a bit talky, but it moves right along. Entertaining but not spectacular. Recommended if you like the author and the premise.
