We are Lady Parts
#1
Are any of us watching the Peacock channel? I came across the TV show We are Lady Parts because the creator of the show also created Polite society. I'm a bit curious but not curious enough to get Peacock.

As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

I should check this out. I’m interested in Polite Society because it looks like a film directed directly at me.

I started this and got hooked and now I’m 4 eps deep with only 2 more to go. It’s like a typical rom-com but with 4 Muslim women that form a punk band in the UK. What makes it work is that the characters are engaging, especially the lead band women. The lead guitarist is so neurotic but in a female Muslim way and the front person in the band is relatable. I suspect there will be an lgbtq angle soon. But ultimately it’s clever and heartwarming, with a charm that’s both funny and endearing.

Btw, I’ve applied for an in-person interview for the creator of this series next month. She’ll be on her promo tour for Polite Society and from the looks of this, that has hood potential to be very entertaining.

Seen. That was very satisfying. Think Ms Marvel but instead of a superhero, it’s a punk band. The final 2 eps were predictable, and yet well actualized.

The finale opens with the lead protag Amina delivering an edgy version of Creep, demonstrating that she really can sing. She’s played by Anjana Vasan, who carries most of the show with a very impressive performance. Overall, the cast is solid and refreshing, deftly navigating between funny and heartfelt. The ending was glaringly predictable but I still found myself smiling at its sweetness.

Strangely enough, I shall D00M recommend this despite it being way out of our usual sandbox. Now I’m super eager for Polite Society and I hope I get that interview with director Nida Manzoor.

The offered in-person interview has been retracted to Zoom, but the two stars are added.
