Well - I will be tomorrow.

My friend's graphic novel 'Stagger Lee' is up for an Eisner Award so he asked me to be his date.

Hopefully I'll be rubbing shoulders with the Comic Book glitterati (and their open-bar parties). A drunken conversation with Garth Ennis ending with a fistfight and then the singing of Iggy Pop songs would fit the bill quite nicely.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to 4 days of screenings, seminars and celebrity panels filtered through a haze of whiskey and cigars.

It's nice not to be a fanboy anymore. I have no intention buying anything (unless they have a John Constantine shot glass).

So if you want me to buy you that limited-edition Bratz doll, now's the time to email me.

You know that a live-action Bratz movie is coming out this summer, yes? I would have gone if they used CGI to distort the actresses's heads like the dolls. I may still wind up going anyway.

Been eyeing one of those Ray Park light sabers, but they're waaaaaaaaaaay past my pocketbook. It'd be hard to justify buying one of those when I could buy a real sword for the same price...

This is no vacation.

We flew in Wednesday and got settled into our hotel, The Horton Arms. It's one of those renovated victorian jobs, pull-chain antique toilet and everything. Fortunately it's 3 blocks from the convention center so I'll forgive the Holly Hobby motif.

So far I have not bought adamn thing b esides food and liquor. I'm starting to see the value of taking pictures over a small plastic Dr. Who. I'm hanging on the coattails of my friend Derek (the comic writer). I'm hanging with artists and writers, attending parties Well, A party, the 'Comic Book Legal Defence fund' shindig) and meeting some industry professionals.

Some of you know I have a problem with crowds. There are an estimated 150,000 attendees. Guess who's hiding out in the hotel room posting on the internet instead of attending the convention.

Actually I've been recruited by the Comic Book Legal Dfense Fund to help with crowd control during their signings. Last night and tonight it's Neil Gaiman. After the signing they brought me over to him and asked if I wanted anything signed. I was totally unprepared and had nothing. Tonight I'll buy a copy of 'Mirrormask' and be ready!

I stood next to Ray Harryhausen in the lobby (he was in a wheelchair). I'm still reeling from that. I couldn't even think of anything to say.

Anyway, I spent some of today in Tijuana and I'm having dinner with Warren Ellis tonight before the Eisner Awards. Then it's more parties unless the blisters on my feet burst.

I'll keep an eye out for 'Heroes' stuff (there' s a huge booth with cheerleaders and everything). People keep trying to give me schwag but I'm over that crap. Really. I took a few bookmarks because I like having bookmarks around but the shirts, hats, bags and '300' shields just add to the pile-o-crap that I'm trying to get rid of.

I think I walked into a few G4 newscasts. Watch for me. I'm the one without a bag and not wearing a clever t-shirt.

This was toootally a rip-off of High School Musical. Note for note. Sooooo 2006. Whatever.

Janel Parrish has potential. She was Jade and May on Heroes (don't worry, I don't remember May either). Jon Voight is slumming here, disguised in a fake nose ala Kidman in the Hours.

T liked it. Mrs Dm protested the rental. T 'punished' mommy for critiquing her piano practice by forcing her to watch it. Mrs Dm decided it wasn't so bad after, but she hasn't seen High School Musical.

Did you notice in the last post DM was able to compare the Bratz movie to High School Musical? Kudos to you for being the good dad and watching movies with the precocious one. Since I am so immature and not a member of the breeder cult, I have to giggle though.

...but I could follow with way too much clarity the entirety of the recent DM post re: Bratz. Now, I hate Bratz - the whole look of those dolls just makes my skin crawl. However, having SEEN High School Musical (don't ask... please....) I now know I won't by any stretch have to see Bratz.

So you see, what DM is actually doing is a public service.

I've seen High School Musical 1 & 2. Vanessa Hudgens has great potential.
