Yikes. Such is a Friday the 13th I suppose.
One of my dojomates writes for the Sentinel. He said he’s sick of writing about weather. He says it’s an easy gig - he calls the weather service, the power company, and a traffic monitor, and compiles it in a requested formulaic way. He doesn’t have to go on assignment to the disaster locations. We chat about writing after class a lot.

909-201: I can hear another big storm wave hitting rn. It’s loud. Today I have Kung Fu in the morning, then I need to tend to some odd tasks - sorting my medical (my cobra expires this month), answering some interview questions from a new Australian print mag on martial arts, forward an Xmas card my mom sent to the wrong address, sort some stuff, miscellaneous chores.
I’m invited to a party of old Rock Med friends in SF, and a friend has an extra ticket to Laurie’s show tomorrow, but I’m not feeling up for the drive to SF in the storm, nor the Covid/flu risk because it’s high right now. I’ll probably watch tv like usual, maybe treat myself to some whiskey. One more Saturday night…

Got my ass kick at the shop today, listened to intermittent downpours and now some thunder. Head over to H's place in a while. Tomorrow is brunch with friends at Rocco's (my former kitchen in SOMA) and later a "We Survived the Holidays" party. Sunday will be social

Yesterday: watched the niners game while prepping for a visit from a friend that moved to Reno a few years ago. shortly after she got here, around 7pm, the power went out. It's been off ever since. PG&E estimates they'll have it back on around 6pm tonight. Only our housing development - on actually, only half of that - is affected.

910/202: Slept in and that was nice. I’m lazily drinking some dragonwell green tea while alternating surfing the web on my phone and staring at my dog. He’s trying to nap.
I didn’t complete anything I set out to do yesterday so that’s today’s tasks, plus a work job, and laundry, which I’ll start as soon as I finish my tea here.

911.203: Is that the sun? Yay!!! Man, if only today was a holiday and I could enjoy it.
It used to annoy me that Tiger Claw did not observe MLK day when it was almost all ‘minority’ (Asian & Latinx). It doesn’t annoy me so much with YMAA where there’s only one other Asian and he lives in Portugal. Is that racist somehow? It’s so hard to tell anymore.
Meanwhile it’s work as usual…

I'm glad people keep making Stabby Things so you can continue to make stabby things. Were you blades on display at CIP?

LK Chen just did a swepthilt rapier. For a moment, I thought about asking for a sample, and then trying to broker a deal with Victory, but I've got so many samples and I haven't been able to get either of my companies to bite.

Get me a sample, then.
Yes, my handiwork was used at the CIP for 4 fencers.

No I’d get the sample. Then you’d buy some. As if I needed another sword. They do look cool tho. But it’s a nice iaido sword that I need next, not a swept hilt rapier. But they do look cool. Very cool.
914.206: Triple telemeet Thursday, then some dog parking in the sun (yay) then iaido.

No, get *me* a sample and then I tell you "thank you for the sample, that was very kind of you."
