Made a dash over the hill at daybreak. Got to the Cruz right when the rain started. We celebrated by breakfast at companion which is way too expensive since the pandemic. Back at work now.

Thursday is “no Day Job” day. That means sleeping in and running errands until Stabbery begins in the evening. Post stabbing, it is over to H’s for our midweek visitation. She will cook and then we’ll hit our local for a pint and catching up on the week so far.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

Thursday is my work from home day. I need to prep some database stuff so I can upload it tomorrow, but I'll probably make time to go to the used bookstore. And make some art. And play some music.

I'm curious about the safety of tg.
Quote:FORT BRAGG, Calif. — Several communities near California's Monterey Peninsula were told to flee their homes Wednesday after authorities warned that a river swollen by a series of drenching storms is expected to overflow its banks and possibly turn the area into an island.

907/199: Twin Thurs telemeets. Taking advantage of the break to get Yuki out for a good dog park session. Our usual hang is now star of the swamp, full of ponds, bogs & egrets, so we’ll head to Chanticleer which isn’t as muddy.
Tonight is 1000 cuts - an iaido new years tradition. It’s been years since I’ve done any 1k rep drills and I’m in poor shape rn. Beyond my narrowing yet intensifying shoulder issues (day 199 according to my counter above) my right hip and knee are complaining loudly about the rain, or perhaps it’s some reciprocal issue from my shoulder. I’m excited for the ritual but somewhat worried I might not make it. I will be careful and conservative about it. We’ll have snacks afterwards and I’m bringing my Christie’s Japanese sword auction catalog to distract my classmate if need be.

Yuki loves stalking and chasing egrets. He’s never got closer than 30 ft of one.

Hmm, maybe DM and I can swamp healthy appendages for poor ones. The joints on my left side are crappy. I could trade you my wonky left knee for your good left knee. And I could give you my good right arm for your bad right arm. Do you want two bad shoulders or two bad knees? Or do you prefer half your body being miserable?

My right arm is ok. It's my left shoulder. That's one of the many reasons I'm back at iai; it doesn't place as much demand on my left arm.

Crap. It's my left shoulder as well. I'll keep looking for body parts elsewhere.

Every year, the houses at roadway level get inundated with water/mud. I'm sure this will be the same. We're up the bluff 20-30' from the Salinas River level. Davis Rd is my shortcut to Salinas if I ever need to go there and it's been closed for over a week. The other two main roads that way are Blanco Rd and Hwy 68, both of which are likely to get closed...but who wants/needs to go to Salinas? Hwy 1 is more concerning as there are parts of that that could be closed at which point we'll be cut off from the north. Also, to the south via Big Sur...We've got supplies (wine, beer, canned dolmas). We'll wait it out. I imagine the agricultural fields will all be flooded (prepare for your lettuce, brussel sprout and strawberry prices to rise). I'll probably try to go into the office next week if the roads are open again. --tg

Putting aside Robert Underwood while I deal with John Muir's trip with Teddy Roosevelt in the Park all the while resisting the urge to write the preface to my grandfather's book.

The thousand cuts went well. I’m sore but that good post workout sore and I had some of the best sleep last night.
908:200-Happy Friday. I’m watching the next storm roll in. Stacy got up to see the sunrise and just sent me a vid of some insane waves coming in. Today is a work day. I’m a bit behind because of dealing with storm issues at my mom’s earlier this week but I’ll catch up today.
