Sheltering in Place
My last day of work this year. I have to go in early because of early finals, but get off early. And today is the Humanities faculty/staff luncheon. I'll do a little actual work in there somewhere.

890-172: My usual Thursday telemeets & work tasks. Iai tonight. Tiger Claw gave me some gear - mainly the demo midnight katana which I’ve always disdained but it’s unsharpened which is what I need now so I don’t cut off a finger. Most of my classmates use tozando pieces which is this incredible Japanese maker, but those are like $300-500 and I’m not paying that for an aluminum alloy blade (I’m told that you need aluminum to travel in japan). Anyway I’m eager to try my new cheesy sword out tonight.

First day of my vacation. I have a few collages to glue up - trying a (sort of) new thing, and making several from layering up the off-cuts. Later I'll hit the used bookstore and the library. I've got a piece of fruitcake too. And I'll make some tea. It's cold.

I remember vacations. I accrued a lot of vacay time after 20 years at Tiger Claw. All gone now... Fuckn covid.

I'm sure they paid you for those unused Vacation days as part of your severance package.....

Team holiday party this evening in the spaceship so, I'll be making the trek from Marina to Cupertino this afternoon. Thank goodness the weather is ok. Shannon's on a deadline w/her work, so we probably aren't going to stop by my mom's to visit and will just go straight there and back. It's pretty exciting that employees are allowed a +1 for this party since outsiders are usually not welcomed aboard. I was considering auctioning my +1 off, but decided that would probably be frowned upon.

Yes, I was cashed out for my unused vacay. It's that at 2 decades, I had the max amount of vacay days a year that the company allowed. It was a couple of weeks. Now I only get a few days.

I remember holiday parties too. When I was by TC on Tues, they did invite me to the party next week. They threw decent parties - a big catered lunch for everyone, secret Santa and something from the bosses (usually a box of See's candies and a bonus). On year, they gave us all toothpaste.  It was some Korean toothpaste that was supposed to be good but I didn't notice a difference (if there's one thing the Oh clan has, it's great smiles). Nevertheless, I shan't be attending next week.

I would've gladly been your +1 to that party tg. Next year... ;-)

891.173 Maybe yoga first thing because my usual Friday meeting canceled. Then my 2nd shingles shot and some Xmas shopping and errands.

892.174: Last Kung Fu session of the year, assuming I’m up for it (shingles shot #2 has my body feeling weird). Then Xmas errands. Maybe write more. I should’ve done more of that yesterday but I wasn’t feeling it.

Survived another week of getting stabbed. It seems like every Friday of this season I just barely make it over the finish line, taking the weekend to mostly recuperate. Just a shop day on Saturday, then dinner and Traditional Oirish Music with H and her friend Claire.

Tonight at the club was enjoyable because several of the former students who have gone away to college come back to fence each other and smack around the new kids. It is a quiet joy for me to see these kids that I worked with for years in often stressful circumstances turn into pleasant, positive adults.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

Struggled through my minimal regimen at Kung Fu, did some quick shopping and am now collapsing into a hot epsom salt bath. Still ache like hell. I’ll need food soon…

Shingles shots suckkkkkkkk

Fire. So much fire. And endlessly carrying sticks up the muddy path to the fire. I might join you in that bath.

Going into Raymond this evening for a tree lighting ceremony.

I feel better today. The aches have passed. Shoulder is still sore.
