Pig (2021)
#1
Watched on Hulu

I think this answers the question: what if a Portlandia episode were redone by an action movie director.

Nicholas Cage is "Rob", a disheveled truffle hunter living a secluded life in a cabin in the woods with his pig. One night, his pig is taken...Rob is hit on the head with a frying pan and becomes more disheveled. The next day, he walks to town and reaches out to his apparently only contact: the buyer of his truffles: A young up-and-coming entrepreneur in the truffle-supply world. With the odd-couple pairing assembled, the pursuit begins - down into the restaurant underworld and into Rob's past life...with secret passages, a restaurant worker fight club (a food-fight club?)...Rob eviscerates a former employee. He uses his super power to get what he wants out of the big boss. But to what end?

I thought this was going to be more "Taken" or "John Wick" from the trailer, but it's not. It's about the past that haunts us, set in beautiful Portland. Cage puts in a good performance: "I want ma pig!"

No swordfights. Not particularly d00m recommended.

Sweet. I'll add that to my queue there. Thanks for the heads up.

Damn, I just watched something recently about a stolen truffle hunting pig. What the hell was that? I'm thinking it was set in France...

Saw it last night.  Nothing substantial to add to TG's review.  A slow movie, but it's the nature of the beast.  Better if you're in a passive, reflective mood.

One recommendation that I hope isn't a spoiler.  Watch it with a wet washcloth in hand.  You'll be wanting to wash Nick's face off repeatedly.

For a sec, I thought cf's comment was going to go in an entirely different direction and I almost stopped reading out of fear. I have enough nightmares to deal with already without that mental image...
