Screeners unlocked. Netflix just gave me the first 6 eps of Money Heist Korea.

There goes my weekend.

Watched the first 2 eps of money heist Korea - meh.

It’s added Korean north & south politics but the character development isn’t there. Everyone is caricatures of the original and kinda flat.

They need to make some significant twist to make this work. Unimpressive so far

Finished e5. One more to go.

It pales by comparison to the original. A total miss. There’s a few twists to this version, but none have any impact. The biggest twist is the north commies v south capitalists. The original made some commentary about class and capitalism, which is why it became globally associated with the revolution while this new version seems to just give the controversy lip service only to add another element of rivalry.

The characters are all off. None of the new cast have any of the charisma of the old cast. And there’s no humor to it. The romances come out of nowhere and the partners have no chemistry. The lgbtq themes have been completely expunged. I could pick apart the failing of each character, which might be how I write this up for Den. I must discuss this with my editor.

The Easter eggs only serve to remind how great the original was and how this fails to get anywhere close to the magic it had.

E3 had some amusing action, but it didn’t sustain.

I presume you will write this piece to encourage viewership while at the same time whispering between the lines, "Danger, Will Robinson; turkey dead ahead!"

Then again, I'm not clear how much flexibility they give you for negative reviews.  Seems like this could be one of the more difficult balancing acts.

I’m not sure either. Den does publish negative reviews. I’ll discuss it with my editor tomorrow.

Personally I seldom did overly negative reviews on KFM. We did some but we were generally supportive.

E6 did not redeem this. I skimmed some of the original series to see about where the new one ended - around e11, but so much is omitted. And the original is so much more captivating. MHK doesn’t even end on a cliffhanger. It falls short 2 eps.

Oh snap!

I just remembered I have a complete money heist costume from OSL last year. Sure, it’s store bought, but that feels like Friday’s cosplay. I mean - what else am I gonna do with that? Might as well…

Bella Ciao! Ciao! Ciao!

Looks like they might be going into some fresh places with part 2. Yeah, I’ll probably still watch it…

The rest of mhk s1 was released. E7 started down a slightly different path with more focus on the main deviation - the North & South Korea politics. Still too derivative but I’ll likely watch more just because it’s there.
