RIP “The Oaks”

Home to “A Clean Well Lighted Place for Books”

I talked to my mom this afternoon and she said it’s about 1/2 torn down now to make way for a 5 story building.

So many memories!
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

I've been seeing the tear down on FB. Very sad. Although, I probably haven't frequented the Oaks in 25 years or so.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

It was at least half empty for years. Just before lockdown, a dance school had most of the back, but half the front was empty.

I believe they've been wanting to re-do it for years.

Kind of a problem spot. Poor parking. Bad access. Great bookstore. I was thinking it was done in by Crown books.
