I finally caught the first episode. It was fun. I guessed the twist. My big question was who stole the necklace originally? My guess is the owner and they framed the chauffeur. We watched it with subtitles, but that's a problem. tQ likes to listen to the show while she surfs the net and looks up when big things happen. Subtitles make that behavior problematic.
I'll see if I can catch more. I recognized the wooden bridge over the Seine as one of the spots we traversed. I do like being in the Louvre. I'm curious how much that cost and how they got permission.

P2E3-E5 (finale): Satisfying. Lots of gratuitous Paris including many places on the banks of the Seine where I know I've walked, plus a section of the Orsay that I totally recognized. Luv that.
I am very pleased that my Den featured nailed a lot of Easter eggs in this season. I pitched that blind way back when S1 came out. Den was into it once it became Netflix's top non-English show, but told me they'd want it when part 2 came around. I forgot about it but they tapped me when the date was announced and I put it together on the side. There was a lot of research and I was guessing blind on some of it having not read all the books, just one, and not seen the dozens of versions (I chased down clips and such).
It struck me that it's parallel to Money Heist (Netflix's #2 non-English show). It's about thief heroes, and when a scene plays out, there's a flashback to a week or so earlier when it was being planned and the level of the deception gets revealed. There's a psych chess game between Diop and Pelligrini akin to the Professor and the inspectors who pursue him. Both are really absurd, yet engrossing with cliffhangers and plot twists. There's a lot of darting back and forth in time, and the backstories of the characters play in nicely. It's the new formula for international series.
The season finale provides closure on this story arc. There is no dangling cliffhanger but like a Bond flick, it ends with the promise that Lupin will be back.
DOOM recommended especially for those of us Francophiles that have been to Paris.

...or the source Lupin books.
There’s a specific meter of how this and Money Heist plays out, although MH has this real time vibe, akin to 24 Hours.
Maybe it’s just the subtitles...
But given that these two are the top non-English Netflix series, the comparison is irresistible. Maybe there’s an article in there.

Been watching this, and most of the way through the first series. Enjoying it. Like all heist pieces, there are some absurdities and unlikely bits, but not enough to make it too ridiculous.

The one in the prison. Nice to see a little back story. But I figured out in the first episode who did the robbery.
Still interested.

I did not know there was an anime Lupin:

After making a bold leap into 3D CG animation with Lupin III The First last year, Monkey Punch’s iconic gentleman thief is going back to more traditional TV routes this year, with Lupin III Part 6 set to celebrate the character’s 50th anniversary. Bad news for poor Lupin though: he’s celebrating it while being hunted by none other than Sherlock Holmes.
While we’ve known that a new Lupin anime was in the way for a while at this point—and even that Lupin and friends would be heading over to London for their latest adventure. But as part of an announcement by Sentai Filmworks today to license the series for home and streaming release via HiDive in North America, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as Scandinavia and other Nordic territories, a new plot synopsis revealed just what Lupin’s up to... and good lord, it’s a lot.
“Gentleman thief Lupin III is back and ready for his next caper—unless legendary sleuth, Sherlock Holmes, has anything to say about it! When Holmes’ longtime partner, Dr. Watson, is murdered, none other than Lupin tops the suspects list,” the synopsis, via Crunchyroll, reads in part. “With Holmes fast closing in, Lupin must prove his innocence and bring a shadowy organization called the Raven to heel if he wants to live to steal another day.”
John Watson is dead! And Lupin, maybe, presumably not, killed him?! Oh dear. Lupin III certainly isn’t unfamiliar with darker material compared to its usual heist capers and fantastical adventures, but having him framed for the murder of half of one of the most iconic sleuthing duos (outside of Gotham) in literary history is kind of wild. But it’s also perfect to celebrate 50 years of Lupin III, given the character’s own literary roots beyond Monkey Punch’s manga. Maurice LeBlanc’s famous novel hero Arsène Lupin (and Lupin’s grandfather in Lupin III), of course, went up against Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective in a duology of adventures collected in 1908's Arsène Lupin versus Herlock Sholmès—named as such to avoid legal issues with Conan Doyle at the time. The author was not best pleased that LeBlanc had borrowed Sherlock for his stories, demanding that changes be made for the collection’s future publishing and translations outside of French. As you might have gathered... LeBlanc didn’t exactly change much.
Given how complex the rights around the Conan Doyle estate and usage of Sherlock Holmes are even over a century later, time will tell if Lupin III will be on the run from Sherlock or Herlock. Case in point—the long awaited release of The Great Ace Attorney detective games by Capcom in the West last month was forced to change its version of Sherlock Holmes into Herlock Sholmes for international release, despite the character staying as-intended in the original 2015 Japanese release. But whether or not Lupin’s up against Holmes or Sholmes, we’re going to be in for a treat when Lupin III Part 6 begins in October.

Finished Lupin (The French Netflix one). H & I watched it together. Very enjoyable, somewhat predictable. H was so pleased to have a black protagonist.

And we’re back! A black pearl heist brings Diop back to Paris to a jewelry store right next to that famous column that I can’t remember to be name of right now but went past when we were there. Honestly, I got lost in the recap, but it doesn’t seem to matter as this is a new season with its own capers.
7 eps, each under an hour. Im not planning on binging it - maybe one a night or so.
