 Truth.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

I always go through Pasadena and over to 15 when we go to San Diego. Much faster.

We took the coast. We love our beach time. Hit the road at 5:30AM. Everything was going swimmingly. We had packed food so we only stopped at a few rest stops to piddle (Yuki is with us), once for gas (the prices nowadays...dang), and took a half hour break in Ventura to let Yukz run amok.

LA was longer than expected. What really hit us was LA to SD. That corridor was red tail lights. Took us nearly 3 hours when it should've only been 1+. The trip walloped us at the end.

We arrived in SD at 5PM. 11 hours of pretty much straight driving with that half hour break.

Tara is working tonight but we swung by to pick up her apt mate's dog, Bottles. Yuki and Bottles are BFFs and they were so excited to see each other. We took them to some dog parks.

Then my blood sugar nose dived. Note to self - always pack snacks. Always. Fortunately we're really close to a shopping center and I ducked into Whole Foods for some killer pizza (Greg knows how good food tastes when crashing). We're back at the hotel now - the She-Rat-On. It's pleasant enough.

I'm gonna sleep soon. My head hurts.

Stacy got up at sunrise as it her habit. She took Yuki and picked up Bottles and headed to the beach. She loves taking them to the beach. I slept in a bit.

Tara doesn't work until 5-11 so we're figuring out what today might bring. Breakfast later, when Tara gets up (it'll be second breakfast for Stacy most likely). I'm going to nibble at some work until then.

Diego is gorgeous as usual - perfect weather. More people are masked now, which is amusing given the general political climate of this area and the times.

It looks like the Timken Museum is still closed, or I'd recommend that. The SD Museum of Art next door has a nice collection too, and a walk in Balboa Park is always nice.

Been to those previously. I was hoping the SDCC museum would open before she left but that was not to be.

We have Yuki to mind so that limits our excursions to dog-friendly stuff. We're near campus, and will relocate to La Jolla later (hotel crunch from covid + graduation). We'll probably only make one trip downtown because Stacy wants to visit all of her old fav places here, and one of those is Lofty Coffee near Little Italy.

Stacy may never come back to Diego. I might for SDCC, but then I'd only stay downtown by the convention center.

When Yuki went to the beach, he drank too much sea water. When Stacy came back to our hotel with the dogs, she hopped in the shower. Yuki then vomited copiously in all of the corners. Four times. Twice in the corners behind the beds. Then he refueled with some water. Then two more times, once in the center of the room, once on the tile by the door.

That was a lot of puke. Turns out Yuki doesn't chew his kibble. Gross way to start the day.

My Rock Med vomit cleaning skills are rusty from the break. Since this was before breakfast, I felt a tinge of quease whilst cleaning up the 4th puddle. Nearly used up both full TP rolls.

The day was redeemed with a lovely breakfast with our new grad at the Forum - I had a nice soy milk cappuccino and a savory waffle with tomatoes, baby spinach, brie and some kind of special jam. It was more like a crepe. One of the best waffles I've ever had in my life.

Tara gave me my birthday present finally. Only 4 months late. But I must forgive her - it's a custom built lightsaber from Saber Forge. Now my armory is nearly complete.

Now I just gotta figure out how this lightsaber works. There's only one button that allegedly changes the color and sounds. It's really loud. There are all sorts of samples, along with the typical lightsaber buzz. Tara got me one that is akin to a katana hilt, which is very nice. There was one of those 'instruction' cards with a QR that just led to the website which wasn't very helpful. Saberforge lightsabers are allegedly battle worthy and it says in their materials that they can withstand combat with Kendo shinai and HEMA nylon wasters, but the blade is held in by a tiny screw and doesn't go very deep into the hilt. We'll see. I haven't assembled it fully. I'll wait until I get home for that.

We hit Lofty Coffee in Little Italy this morning. So freakin good. Our fav breakfast joint. I had the poached eggs with avocado and a coconut milk cap. It's dog friendly because it's basically outdoors, but we kept Yuki in the car to get him used to the idea. He did great. I wonder if I'll ever return there. I imagine I'll be back for SDCC - I hope so - but it's a decent hike out to Lofty from the convention center and SDCC is already a lot of walking. We'll see. SDCC may be completely different when it happens again.

We'll be taking Yuki over to Tara's apt. She and her apartment mate Bri have set up a dog sitter for Yukz & Bottles for the graduation. We'll walk there from the She-Rat-On, but they will drive with Bri's grandmother and brother (her grandmother doesn't walk far).

After the graduation, we have reservations at Piazza 1909 in La Jolla for the two graduates, us and Bri's family.

If interested, Tara is part of Eleanor Roosevelt College (ERC) which has commencement at 1PM - broadcast live here: https://commencement.ucsd.edu/ Keynote speaker is Alicia Garza, one of the founders of the Black Lives Matter Global Network.

Tara's commencement was awesome. We walked from our hotel to the field - had some issues connecting with Tara who was struggling with high heels. We wound up in the newly constructed college where she had never been. It was a construction site for her years there and opened during the pandemic so she never ventured to that part of campus.

There was a massive line for security but it went quickly. By coincidence, Tara bumped into a good friend who was right behind us walking towards the line, so we all went in together, then we connected with Bri who got their earlier for her grandma. The weather was partly cloudy, perfect for me, but Bri's brother got badly sunburned.

The ceremony was odd with many speakers zooming in. The chancellor's video had me fooled until Stacy pointed out that he wasn't there. That was likely recorded the day prior at a previous college commencement.

All the grads had a ticket with a bar code. They were escorted up in rows, the barcode scanned for their name and info, then the got to stand on stage for a few seconds and wave as their name was read off. It went okay, but it was a long procession. We bailed before the tassel turning ritual to make it to our dinner reservations.

Dinner was excellent. Yuki could've joined us on the patio because it was dog friendly, but we got a parking spot right in front so we had the windows down and it was shady and he was content to sleep off the play date with the other pups. We brought him in later.

Tara came by our hotel afterwards to relax a bit and see the koi pond. It had been a long day so we let her go early, and crashed ourselves.

Surely one of the proudest moments of our lives.
