And I think DM might have a sword hoarding problem. It's going to be a weird garage sale when Tara cleans out the house after DM is gone.
I hope I'm still alive to score some bargains.

I got a major brown thumb. Otherwise I'd've been a grower and got my 2nd vax already.

You're probably the only one of my close friends who could truly appreciate the value of my collection. Everyone at the Academy, they don't know swords. One guy collects high end Japanese knives so he has a notion, but he's doesn't know swords.

Miao Dao unlocked. It's got to be the biggest sword I own now. And I own some big ass swords. Only glanced at it. The blade lacked the fine pattern-welding of the previous ones and there was some spots on it - not sure what those were - rust? Unpolished bits? I'll examine it further later.
They also sent me a pair of their nylon jian plus two sets of sparring armor. It was like packing material. Not sure what to do with those. I'm too brittle now to take hits like that anymore.

The nylon ones clean up easily. I leave the rest to your sordid, and frankly appallingly perverse, imaginations.

Ya know, when someone who lived in the back of a piss-and-who-knows-what?-soaked alley off Folsom street says your imagination is appallingly perverse, that should be worn like a badge of honor, right?
The Miao Dao is my least favorite of the collection so far. It's appallingly huge. The blade doesn't have the elegant pattern-welding lines. It has some schmutz on it that will be a beyotch to remove because the blade is appallingly huge and finger-cutting sharp. The guard is more crude that the others. I suspect it is an earlier version.
Plus I don't know Miao Dao at all. It might work as an O-tachi, but I only played with an O-tachi shinai a few times, never enough to get the hang of it. I don't know what to do with it.

You can use it to give the gift of eternal peace.

You can't gift blades. It symbolizes severing the relationship.
Well, you can gift blades when you're severing a relationship. My folks gave me a knife when I moved out. It was a kitchen knife. I still use it.
I have several weapons that I don't know what to do with - like I have a nice chrome steel monk's spade. Maybe someday I'll learn that one. Maybe...

Well, you can name it “kindness” and then kill people with kindness. It is still bestowing the gift of Eternal Peace.

So you don't want to give it as a gift yet you received it as a gift.... Maybe you can have a flea market with the next tournament. And it sounds like the message from your parents was "And stay out!"
