One of the last of the Beats, and the publisher for many of the others. He could be celebrated for founding City Lights if he had done nothing else. And not only was he a poet, he also painted a number of very good paintings. And damn he was old. 101!

We were surprised to learn he was still alive. I never crossed paths with him, but what a legend. I always pop into City Lights whenever I pass by - one of the many go-to stops when I'm in that hood.
