Batman: The Killing Joke (2106)
#1
I've had this in my queue forever. The original graphic novel punched me in the gut like no other. It was a brutal take on the Joker, crossing deep into the abyss. I found it traumatic, like it should be.

The animated version covers the same ground but it's not as graphic. It didn't hit nearly as hard but I knew what was coming, and from what I remember, it was toned down. And there's a musical number. I don't remember that from the comic, but then, it wouldn't have been set to music, would it?

Mark Hamill voices the Joker, and he's on point as always with that. It's his 2nd greatest role. Hamill had left the role but said he would come back if TKJ was ever done, and he did. After that, he came back a few more times to voice Joker.

This is another Joker creation story. But Joker has a great line about wanting the past to be multiple choice, foisting the idea that all of his creation stories are products of his hallucinatory world. I buy that.

No sword fights. Not really DOOM recommended, especially since none of you have dove into the DCAMU, although this is an outlier, based on the comic and not connected with the others. If you're going to see one, see Batman Ninja http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...p?tid=4504

I do own the comic, if that's worth anything.

That's worth everything. Impressive.

I don't know that I own any Batman graphic novels. I think all I have is some Batman socks and a Batman light switch chain fob.

I have the The Dark Knight series that Frank Miller did. Multiple copies. I eventually gave one to ED, who coincidentally wanted to trade me a copy of The Killing Joke for it.

Best DOOM trade since the Vampire Motorcycle for Knicker frottage.

Better than the DOOM trade of a foil blade for a gunto blade and beat up saya.

Good trade.

That's even better. Anytime you can drive a fellow DOOMer crazy is a win.

Wait...hold the batphone...how many copies of Batman comics do you have now?

I had five copies of the first two issues of that limited run. It was more about Frank Miller. I was supposed to get 5 issues of each edition, but the comic book shop where I placed the order lost the order. It was a shop in El Paseo de Saratoga before the remodel.

Why not? At the time, I wanted a few extra because I figured the comic was going to be a huge hit and that they might be worth something one day. I figured I would read one and then have four extra that I could keep pristine.

I see. And how’s that working out for you? Any return on the investment? Enough to bank DM & the Yeti?

Sure. If I got out the Super-8 camera and we went back to the creek bed near my parent's house.

I think a mint issue is worth about $50 bucks. I paid$2. I keep thinking I should trade them and the rest of the comics I have in to get them out of the house. I also have the limited edition run Frank Miller did of Elektra with Bill Sinkevitch.
