207: I didn't get any work done yesterday. I wound up taking a big nap and then watching some DVDs. So I have to catch up today.
But first, tuning into Warsaw...

I am not nervous. No way. Not even a little. The flop sweat is perfectly normal.
I'm also waiting for Bosco's neighbor to fire up his lawn mower again.

So, I had scheduled a drive thru flu shot for yesterday morning, by the old Apple campus (VG6 to be precise). I had to get motivated to get there on time and actually managed to arrive on the nose for my appt where I had to wait in a queue of cars in the parking lot.
I got my shot which was both literally and figuratively painless, then I went over to the old IL campus to steal WiFi on the campus net so I could call into a WebEx mtg. After that, I went over to my mom's so we could go out to lunch. I stopped by the Cupertino Post Office on the way to track down issues with my PO Box. I've had PO boxes since ~2005 to have some security around my mail. When I moved out of the cruz to a Cupertino/Marina split, I opted to move my PO box to Cupertino since I was there on weekdays and I could check it on my way to/from work. But since Covid & SIP started, I decided to stay in Marina. I put a temp forward on my PO box in June. I keep getting "Informed Deliver" email notifications that mail is coming to my box (about 19 so far), but to date, I've only received about 3 pieces of mail. Since I get mostly junk mail, I expected that build wasn't being forwarded, but I was still concerned that I might be missing important mail, hence my visit. Apparently the staff at the Cupertino PO says that since it's a temp forward, only 1st class mail get forwarded. Other mail "probably" get returned to sender. They don't have my mail there and suggest that I contact the senders to follow up on any lost mail which would be possible if I knew what mail was missing and who sent it. They said my options to fix the issue are to put a permanent forward on my mail, or (my suggestion) to turn the forwarding off. I got to my mom's and when I walked in, greeted by the incessant barking of her dogs, she was on the phone and said "It's your son, here..." and handed me the phone. Apparently, she'd had another scam attempt in the morning where the scammers called, posing as her grandson, saying they were in an accident and were in jail and needed money. Luckily, she didn't fall too deeply for the scam as they were following almost the identical script as one from a few months ago, so she had hung up, but then called my son directly to check on his "broken nose"... After getting through that gauntlet, I handed the phone back to her and she hung up on him, and then talked non-stop for an hour about her halloween decorations. She's been alone too long, I think, and really wanted to talk. We headed out to lunch at the Red Pepper (no located on Foothill Blvd, on the border of Los Altos) and had a meh meal outside. There were no other patrons and it wasn't rediculously hot which was nice, but I think she was over excited and ate too fast and really upset her stomach. We went back home to find that the SJ Water company had come by and shut off the water to the house due to an egregious leak ~240 gal/hour. I tested the toilets and after 30 min didn't see any obvious leak, so I poked around the yard (it was now getting pretty hot there). It seems that there was a wet spot in the front yard irrigation, so I shut off the valves to it, but because the water was shut off, I had no way to validate that that fixed the issue, so I called SJ Water and they said they would call dispatch and someone would be out "this afternoon" to turn it back on. I then noticed that one of the toilets was, in fact, leaking. The entire tank had drained while I was poking around at the irrigation. So I took out the flapper, headed down to Home Despot (as my dad like to call it) and got a new flapper. I installed it and then helped my mom bring in her earthquake water rations from the shed outside. One of the bottles was labeled "2/01". I wanted to test the toilet repair, so I opened that bottle to try to fill the tank a bit, but the plastic was so old that it started falling apart and leaking all over the bathroom. The spigot on it broke apart and I cut my fingers on it while trying to open it. Of course, there was no running water, so I couldn't clean up the wound... I waited until 6:30pm. SJ Water never came. I had given them my cell phone as the primary contact. They never called or texted. My mom said she'd be OK, so I headed back to Marina. I'd like to shoot the whole day down... --tg

It still is leaking gallons/second. He suspects the line from the meter to the house. There have been trees in the front yard on and off for years. A walnut when I was a kid, then my folks had the front yard landscaped and had a birch. I think it died, but maybe not. It could be roots broke the line. I told her to get a gardiner to dig the hole in the front yard and try to find the leak. If it is irrigation, they can fix it. If not, she'll have it exposed and can hire a plumber to just repair the break. I expect it will be days to repair. She's gone out to stock up on fresh water. --tg

210: YMAA gave me a good helping of tasks for today and tomorrow, which is great because right now, I'm on an hourly independant contract, working towards a full time position hopefully. Tomorrow I must take my mom to the hearing center and hopefully get her new hearing aids - something that we've been waiting to do since the pandemic began. On the way home, I'll stop by Tiger Claw to chat about some projects and hopefully pick up a handmedown PC, assuming that they wiped one like promised last week, however Jonny has not come through with another count that he said he would do so I won't be too disappointed if it doesn't happen.

Pulled a late night at the shop after giving 10 lessons this evening. Got home before midnight. First regional tournament in Time of the Covids is this weekend in Denver. Lots of repairs.
Facebook “Memories” shows that I was in the same position 10 years ago, pulling a late night in the shop. Kind of comforting.

Take comfort wherever and whenever you can get it nowadays. Because 2020, amirite?
As predicted, the PC is not ready. I'll stop by anyway to discuss other topics, which probably aren't ready either.

211: a day of telemeetings. The first one should be fun. I’m to be a fly on the wall at YMAA’s PGW sales meet. DOOM booksellers will surely remember PGW. Then my weekly with YMAA. Then maybe another with Immortal unless that can be handled via email. Kung Fu tonight - I’m excited because I bought a new mask yesterday at the Spirit store next to Sprouts in svale. It’s a double layer tube bandana I found for $6 on. Tiger King display that had a Tiger mouth - so cheesy. I can’t now wait to bust it out tonight. Tiger style! If only I remembered any Tiger style that Sifu Alanna or Decheng taught me...

I just read on FB that Dr. Yang's son Nicholas is stepping down as president of YMAA International. The reason seemed a little sketchy. Maybe DM on the inside could shed some light.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

That's actually a different company. That's YMAA the schools - Dr. Yang has 55 schools in 18 countries. The company I'm working for is YMAA publishing. We do the books and DVDs. As for Nicky stepping down, it's tough to be the son of a GM and I've heard he was never comfortable in that position. We'll see what happens there.
The PGW telemeeting went well - so much to catch up on in the book industry now what with the interwebz. Such a long way from ABA.
