I thought I would pop in for a little workplace comedy and hijinks about a morning news show. Not so much.
Instead I get the story (loosely) about Matt Lauer. There is also the thread of the aging female host who needs to be replaced. Finally, we have the firebrand newcomer who is full of anger. Or is that all just a ruse to get her on TV?
Not a lot of funny. But Apple spent a ton of money on this. I think they wanted a big hit right out of the gate with their streaming service. Their efforts did pay off with 15 emmy nominations for the show with Billy Crudup as the sleazy network executive. Although sleazy Network Exec is a bit redundant.
It's quite good. Lots of story threads have started. Anniston is good. Carrell as Matt Lauer is good. Witherspoon is good. Crudup is sleazy good.
Lots of shows popping up for the fall so I don't know when or if I'll get back to this one.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

I'm 4 eps deep in this. Stacy already watched most of it on her iPhone, but I just retconned our old AppleTV which Stacy recovered doing some bungalow cleaning and so now we can watch iPhone stuff on the big screen. She's watching it again with me.
I'm enjoying it. Great cast. Aniston will always be Rachel for me, but she's almost wriggled free with this performance. I love Reese. Billy is killing it. Steve is also good.
I don't know what Greg is on about here. I'm finding it very funny, tackling some issues with some savagely black humor. The tennis scene with Martin Short as a Woody Allen caricature was bitingly funny and wickedly on point.
Stacy says the show loses apart when they go to Cali to cover the wildfires. She blames covid. We're not there yet so I'm still watching it.

E5 was still good but beginning to waver. E6 is the LA fires and Stacy is not into rewatching that. She cheery picked a few of the remaining 15 eps. I want to watch the ones with the Good Wife.
I’ve had a decent chuckle in every ep. I find it quite funny. Clearly my sense of humor is warped compared to Greg’s but this is news to no one here.

Skipped to the finale of s1. So dark (but I predicted the darkest scene just before it occurred). But then, when everything fell apart, we were laughing again.
S: ‘I don’t know why this is so funny’
G: ‘yeah, this is so dark’
Among the things we share is a twisted sense of humor.

Got 3 eps into s2. It’s starts with 2020 NYE, then moves into Covid. Ep 3 introduces the good wife. Still enjoying it. It’s got a lot of the same crew and sensibilities as the good fight.

Where are we? E5 I think. The debate.
I made a prediction that Stacy confirmed.
As a side note, my mom watches these sorts of talk shows and now this show has kinda ruined them.

Watched two more eps - the one without Alex and the one that was just Alex & Mitch. Man, I wish I spent my pandemic there…

Penultimate s2 ep. Didn’t think they’d go there. Worst day at UBA so far. Gearing up for the finale.
Gotta hand it to Aniston - she pulled off some complex emotional scenes well.

Okay that wasn't the penultimate ep. This was the penultimate ep... I think.
Now we're deep into the covid arc, which I don't need to see because we're all living it. But I'll finish it.

Done. That was okay. I'm reassessing my opinion of Aniston. She delivered some fine performances here. The whole cast was pretty good. I chuckled a few times during the finale, probably at inappropriate moments but it was all so over-the-top.
Not particularly D00M recommended, but I'd watch a 3rd season.
