Sheltering in Place
#31
Damn bro, that's some serious binging hours put in. I bow down to that.

I enjoyed The Good Place because it was so brainless and I hated all the characters.

Sheltering in place with my Honey this weekend. Went for a long walk today, to the ocean and back through GG Park. On Monday we’ll go back to our neutral corners. She has a ton of work because her school went online much faster than most, and it is the end of the quarter/beginning of the new quarter. We’re both emotionally and socially distant, so no problems.

That was a joke.

I wound down Victory last week and will pop in once in a while to knock out some old, non-urgent repair jobs and take in the mail. The coffee roasting place near the shop is open for on-line sales and “to-go” orders, so I can still get my cappuccino fix (come on up, DM!). They only allow 2 customers at a time in the shop, so social distance is not a problem. I haven’t had three weeks off since the Summer between Sophomore and Junior year..

Goddamit! When did this become the Covid-19 vacation. You people are out walking or sleeping in until 9. Suffer, people, suffer. At least that's what I'm doing.

I spent two hours clearing my trail around the Lair with the weed whacker. Then I took out the chain saw and pruned the dead branches from a White Oak. Yes, it was raining while I was doing this. But the chores aren't going to wait for a little thing like a pandemic. I also carried most of the dead logs from the pruning up the hill to the burn pile. And that was just Saturday.

No, I didn't stroll through Golden Gate Park. No, I didn't hang out on the beach. I spent Sunday moving tools and tables from the garage to the new shop. No, the giant tool box didn't want to go down the sandy path. Yes, it was raining. Yes, the dogs barked at me the whole time. No, it wasn't fun.

And I won't be hanging out on Monday either. I have a film to finish. The deadline is April 1. That's ten days and I don't have any music for it yet. Not worried about that at all. Best of all, I'll enter the film into the competition, I'll be excepted (Maybe, probably not), and then they will cancel the damn festival.

So, enjoy your alone time. Bastards.

Would that be the SF tan you are acquiring? The one where you sit out in the rain until the skin sloughs off your body?

Tell me you're not falling for that football again, Charlie Brown.

Just focus on getting things ready for DOOM because we're all retreating to your place if all hell breaks loose.  What Lynch Lair will need is some swordsmen to defend its borders and a few other DOOMers to fill in the necessities like getting food, fixing toilets, that sort of thing.

DAY 6. Got up early for a 10+ mile hike in Big Basin.  It was overcast, cool and clammy, which brought out a legion of newts.  That made it stressfull because they were well camoflaged on the trail, and tended to be right where we were going to step. And you don't want to step on a newt because they're basically a water balloon full of entrails and it's super gross.  So that was stressful but we didn't see anyone else on the bulk of the trail, so that was social distancing unlocked.  We literally only saw 2 bikers for the 1st 3/4s of the hike, then only about a dozen more before we made it back to the car.

I had a nice lunch on my veranda, which was sunny - steamed sweet potatoes and asparagus, avocado, and smoked salmon. My leggy blonde kickboxer neighbor across the street was working out - jumping rope, doing push ups and working a bag in her garage.  I don't know her but she'd make a great model for Tiger Claw gear someday.  Got a call from mi Shaolin Rasta bredren Chris, the dreadlock recycler who comes to TCEC from OH.  He just wanted to touch base and we chatted about what was happening at great length, dipping in and out of patois as is our stylee.  It was really good to hear his voice.

Now I'm going to read, or write, or draw, or take a salt bath.  Or nap.

Tomorrow I must make it to the Svale for my mom.  Wish me luck there.

For all of you Plague Doomers planning on escaping to the bucolic and germ free Lynch Lair to circumvent the Death Panels, just an FYI, we've moved. We are just up the road. Look for the sign. It's by the thing. You can't miss it.

I trust this football since Lucy ain't holding it.

It could be an auspicious day.

When is it?  They just postponed the Olympics, you know.  That was going to begin on July 24.

I have little hope for SDCC now.

I lied.  I've just been surfing the interwebz.  It's a real horrorshow.

DAY 7 (officially DAY 8 but I had one extra day of telecommuting). I slept in again today. Got up, read a little, worked out a little, took a short nap.  Tried to take hwy17 during a break in the storm and wound up crossig when it was at its worst.  My mom is enjoying the sheltering.  It doesn't really change much for her except that a lot of friends and relatives have been calling and she loves to chit chat on the phone.  Not sure how well she hears it but she's still enjoying that.  She's got an appointment for new hearing aids this Friday, but we'll postpone because she's too at risk to go out.  Santa Clara county is just too hot.

We tried to get groceries delivered but it was too much of a hassle so I made a quick Safeway run.  Everyone was gloved, many masked too.  People were really careful to give each other distance.  Safeway was wiping stuff down regularly between each customer.  I gloved up and used a stylus to press buttons.  I also bathed in my remaining hand sanitizer (I always carry that and still have some - I should've grabbed the cleaning stuff on my work desk too).  I got my mom well stocked for the next few weeks, except for paper towels.

I'll probaby tuck into a movie soon, after finishing my mom's laundry. I hope it has a sword fight.  Review forthcoming.

Finally slept in after a week. It was nice. Day 2 of doing push-ups (being egged on by my diminutive Russian coworker, the Yoga Consultant). I hate push-ups. Gave said coworker a foil lesson (social distance and armed) got a nice cappuccino, did some work at the shop, both for shop and on B's estate. Now back in cave to finish book, eat dinner, start another book.

DAY 8: At my mom's for the moment, but about to head home soon.  Just relaxing now - nice to be in a different space for a bit and to give Stacy some time alone at our bungalow. Since it's just the two of us, we gotta make sure to give each other space, but we've always been good about that, which I feel has been the secret to the success of our marriage.

I have an auto appt this afternoon - much needed maintenence and I'm a little worried about being out in a social area.  Hope they're keeping it clean.  I'm going to glove up.  I made the appt before the safety in place order.

I also need to find a USB to USB cable.  Thought I had one but I can't find it.  I think electronics stores are still open.  Are they?  We'll see.

Good call.

Best Buy is open for curbside pick-up - I have to order online.  We looked into Amazon but delivery wasn't available until late April, probably back-up due to the suppliers being closed.  I'll figure something.  Or maybe I'll get lucky and just find the one I think I already have.

You will not find the one you have until you have bought its replacement.

This is the way.
