Yeah.
First off, you have to have watched a lot of Kevin Smith for this film to make even a lick of sense. It is full of insider jokes and call backs to all his other films. It's a deep dive. And even if you do know all of that stuff, it's not very funny.
He managed to wrangle a huge group of star cameos for the film. It's almost like he wrote an individual scene for each person and then wrote a through line to tie them all together. The only person he didn't get from previous films would be Mark Hamill and Gus Van Sant. Van Sant had the best lines in Kevin and Bean strike back.
It's also very meta, too meta. There's lots of talk about the difference between a reboot and a remake. There's lots of winks to the camera about being in the movie. It goes so far as to have Kevin Smith playing Kevin Smith, who reminded me a lot of Robert Downey Jr. But it's so heavy handed.
The through line besides the quest to stop the filming of the Reboot is that Jay finds out he has child from Shannon Elizabeth, but Shannon swears to silence Jay and not to tell Millie (Short for Millennium Falcon) that he's the dad. Millie is of course played by Harley Quin, Kevin Smith's daughter. There's lots of speeches about what it means to be a dad. Lots. Maybe it would be better if I were a dad. Later Ben Affleck has his kid come in. The kid is played by Jason Mewe's actual daughter.
In the end, it was a long way to go for very few laughs, but there were some. Not DOOM recommended unless you have a deep, deep, deep love for Kevin Smith.
