Game of Thrones

Is this legit?

The Game of Thrones prequel project starring Naomi Watts has reportedly been cancelled by HBO. According to Deadline, the series's cast and crew recently learned that the network had decided to pass on the prequel, which is not being picked up for a full series.

Yep.  There were two proposed prequels.  Milk that money cow.  Or money dragon.

Naomi's GoT dracarysed.  But House of Dragons is on.

OKay, that's only clever if you follow the show.

At the end of S6e8, Arya holds Needle backwards again. WTH? Here they put all this effort into costumes, sets and props and they never figured out how to hold a damn single-ring small sword?  It's not that hard. The ring protects the knuckles.  There's only so many ways to hold it and I swear GoT finds all the wrong ones.  Clearly the fight choreographer never moved into renaissance sword fightin and can only flail with arming swords.   Angry

Here's Needle, FYI

Actually, now that I look at this 'official replica', I see that the handle is perfectly round.  No wonder no one knows how to hold it.  It's just a cylinder.  And no one on GoT knows how to fence.  Angry

While Greg watched movie after movie, I binged on the 10 episodes of season 1. I read all the books, so I knew what to expect. I thought the performances were pretty good. Jon Snow was a lot more teen-angsty than I remembered him being in the book, but otherwise I thought it stayed pretty true to GRRM’s writing; much more so than the first two Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings films. Peter Dinklage was very, very good at fully fleshing out Tyrion Lannister. Enjoyed every moment he was on screen.

Dinklage kills it.

Season 1 is the weakest that I’ve seen although I’m told the final season really sucks.

I gave up my attachment of movies being like the books years ago. It’s two completely different mediums and each can stand on its own merit or lack thereof, but it is always interesting to compare. I’ll be interested if you continue.

Don’t have time... or rather, the spare time I do have for entertainment like that is going to be taken up by reading or hanging out in the Serenity Space. I imagine it will be a long while before I get another chance to binge like that.

S6e9 is the Battle of Bastards.  I take back everything I said about the mediocre fight choreography.  This is one of the best battlefield scenes I've seen in a while, opening with a glorious sanguineous complex single shot sequence and following through with a dirty brutal massive helping of medieval warfare, plus a giant. Such a spectacular payout and worth the 59 hours to get there.

Bravo.

Bravisimo!

You know what the Serenity Space needs?

wifi.

And that's it for S6. Now we're cooking with Dracarys.  Now I see why this series was so beloved.  The S6 finale was great.  There's only 7 eps in S7 and 7 in S8 although S8 allegedly collapses under its own pulchritude.  We shall see.

S7 had an e0 - a recap ep with the cast, j.j., and some odd brit celebs and journalists chiming in as talking heads.  it was a full hour ep, and it blazed through the last 6 seasons with about 10 mins, leaving out tons of stuff but a helpful refresher, plus it was fun to hear comments from various cast members. a lot happens in got.  a lot. it's pretty epic overall.

s7e1 shall we begin?

GoT is on fire now.  I get why it became such a phenomena.  It finally achieved lift off somewhere in the middle of s6.  I'm totally invested now.  It only took like 65+ hours to get here.

It’s the lack of Wi-Fi that keeps it serene.

s7 done.

it's getting ridiculous.  major logic flaws, like how the heck are they all travelling these great distances so quickly? the series spent so much time constructing the lay of the land, and now that's all tossed out the portcullis so they can get characters from one locale to another quickly enough to keep the story moving.

but nevermind, the costumes and sets are over the top. the characters are fully fleshed out and all coming together nicely. the choreo has improved - what this show does well is the big battles, sieges and mass cold arm warfare.  such sanguineous spectacle.  they even pulled off a fight between needle and an arming sword that demonstrated why it was superior - finally.

i get the fire and ice thing and i don't like it in the end.  kinda saw that coming, kinda bummed it inevitably goes there.

now i'm bracing myself for the final season which everyone tells me is a major disappointment.

So I attended Wizard World Bay Area on a press pass this evening.  I submitted for it on a lark, then forgot about it until one of my Kung Fu brothers asked if I was going because he was going to take his son.  I figured my press app was declined but I reached out anyway and WW said I had been approved a month ago but somehow that email never got to me.

Anyway, WW is tiny, just one room of the Oakland Convention Center and not even the biggest one.  I reconned the whole floor in under an hour.  There wasn't much for me, nothing I hadn't seen, and no baby Yoda so not even edgy.  McThor, the bastard hybrid of Thor and Ronald McDonald, had a booth.  Really?

The Dragon Song Forge rep was there and he had all of the official GoT replicas, boxed on the top of his display.  He offered to show them to me but I wasn't that interested.  Needle goes for like $450.  Daaaaaaammmn.  Most were around $200 which seemed about right.  One was $1050 but I can't remember which one now.  Honestly I was more interested in his katanas, which are really nice and way out of my price range.

s8e3 is an extra half hour long.

and it's just a huge battle scene.

that's it.

an hour and a half of battle scene.

a siege.

many characters won't survive the episode.

it is glorious.
