Actually the big yoga fashion store here is called Yoga Smoga. Srsly.

So many BMWs, Maserati, Porsche, Ferrari. Big diamonds. I feel underdressed.

We hit up the Lot yesterday, a big end movie theater with electric seats and table service where gourmet food was delivered with the touch of a call button. Great sound and a beautiful house with fancy bathroom fixtures. Dropped like $80 there tho on tix food & drinks. The pre-show ads were for designer timepieces. The waiters were distracting during the movie. Not really worth it for ninjago.

Been eating really well. The food here is fantastic, but way out of our price range for more than the weekend.

Today is the big move in - Tara can access her dorm room at 3:30, so we have the morning.

Don't do it. Resist! Bring her home!

Good luck. I'm sure it will all work out.

I think Stacy & I are sort of jealous of the opportunities UCSD offers. We would both like to go back. I could see Stacy doing it - she's got 2 bachelors and a masters. After being an editor for 18 years, I doubt I could submit to college writing again. But is sure is nice down here.

Imagine Tara's horror when you or Stacy show up in one of her classes as a fellow student. Almost worth moving to La Jolla for...

Slightly off topic, but I am going back to school - for an MLIS (Masters of Library and Information Science). Since I work at SJSU it's free. Unfortunately you can only take six units a semester, so it will take four years. I probably won't get a new job, but if your qualifications go up, they have to give you a raise. That's my big motivation. Plus I think I can learn new things to do my job better. Maybe.

Good for you, KB.

Tara seems to be adjusting okay.  Her dorm room is tight - two roommates for a room that was likely designed for 2 instead of 3, but they squeezed in an additional desk and clothes cabinet under one of the loft beds.  We only met one roommate - she comes from military stock and we wonder if she's a Trump supporter.  Didn't meet the other one, but she has an aunt in La Jolla where she stays sometimes.  Tara took the loft bed, the small desk under that bed, and the real closet.  She has a view of the ocean from her dorm room window.  She has also made a tent over her loft bed with a large tapestry - very festival style.  She's on the 4th floor, and there are like a dozen plus other girls in the suite, in rooms of 2 or 3, with a shared common room and bathroom.  There's a common room for the whole building on the bottom floor with a minimal kitchen.  She's in ERC, the college on the outskirts, which is far from the freeway, but also a walk to get to her classes.

When we left, ERC was hopping with a massive frizbee game, a bubble soccer game, and an upcoming DJ dance party.  She's made friends with another student from Muir College after the freshman orientation surf trip and they went out to dinner and checked out the aquarium.

We swap texts, snapchats and such so we've heard something from her every day.  I'm tasked to send her snapchats of her cat daily.  She seems to be enjoying the adventure so far.  This is 'week zero' where freshmen get oriented.  Next week, classes start.

We'll go down in a month for Family Weekend, some UCSD promotion thing.  Then she comes back for her birthday and T-day, two weekends in Nov, and then again for Dec holidaze.

KB: Good on ya. I know three people who went through that program, all had praise for it, all working in related fields (2 in law libraries, one in a real big library in DC).

DM: Time to Airbnb her room to pay some of that tuition.

Tara looks super tanned. We picked up out family weekend tchotchkes - UCSD hats, pins, buttons, bag, pen & lots of coupons. We checked out a lecture on how beer changed history (I knew almost all of it and started nodding off - talk about a college day flashback). Now we're nearby hotel nearby.

I predict DM moves into the dorm room next to Tara's for the duration.

I should note the hotel had a computer crash so they were late in checking us in, so they gave us free drinks & appetizers. That was nice. We had an ethopian lunch at the international house - not bad but no enjera nor any promised indigenous speaker so a student read off internet facts one of which she got totally wrong.

We treated Tara to an nice dinner in La Jolla and bailed on the program activities. Form now on we're staying there. We only save a little bus fare staying at the she-rat-on. La Jolla is much nicer.

Today is the bulk of the family activities. While Stacy was looking at research poster presentations, a volunteer chatted me up about my El Rey hoodie. She was into Lucha Underground and the Shaw Films but hadn't seen my show yet.
