Depeche Mode
#1
Hey ED, my local radio station is doing a Depeche Mode promo. They are holding a concert at The Troubadour which is about the size of a postage stamp. They are giving away tickets every 30 minutes or so. 106.7 KROQ.

So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit

I'm not a huge DM fan (Depeche Mode - not Drunk Monk, who I love unconditionally).

My wife on the other hand bought tix for her nieces and nephews so I am guaranteed a night off.

The Depeche Mode lyrical rhyming scheme is like scraping a chalkboard to me. "Everything counts in small amounts", "Why should it be, you and I should treat each other so awfully" et al makes me cringe.

...don't want to end up sore and in a gutter again.

I'm not a big DM (the band) fan either. The dude who used to do packing at AFS worshiped them. That sort of put me off of them. But I do like that new tune on the radio 'soothe my soul' at least for now. However, I think if I give it a few more listens, it may wear out and become chalkboard scrapes.

Crap.
I bought tickets thinking Drunk Monk was going to perform.

So I'm off to lunch and what comes on the radio as soon as I start my car? Soothe my soul. And I listen to the lyrics and they are cringeworthy.

I'm coming for you
I need to feel your skin
I'm coming for you
To stop this crawling

I'm taking my place
By your side
I'm not leaving
Until I'm satisfied

...

I'm coming for you
My body's hungry
I'm coming for you
Like a junkie

I can't stop
The desire in me
I'm not waiting
Patiently

Damn, I can't even make that rhyme right using my thickest touristy Jamaican patois.

Thanks ED. Thanks for spoiling yet another pop song for me. By 'unconditional love' you really meant 'eternal mindfuk', right?

For a spell there, it was rumored that the band KMFDM's name stood for "Kill Motherfucking Depeche Mode" (insert wikipedia citation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KMFDM)

I, too, have always detested DM (the band, not the guy). Except that very first MTV hit "Just can't get enough"...that was brit-pop drivel, but it worked, and didn't aspire to be anything more. After that, they just seemed to be trying really hard to be annoying/lame.
