I have not intention of using them. I already have an offer from a company to pay me. I was just curious what their royalty rates were to get a comparison. I think, and again I'm not sure, the royalty rates from Casement are a tad low. I could be wrong. I'm looking for someone to tell me yay or nay.

At the end of the day, I will probably go with Casement because in my mind the victory will getting the book published, not the money.

But, yes, money is nice.

I've seen the Hybrid contract from Olympia. The royalties are much higher. I just have to pay £2900.

Funny how that works.

Okay. That Author's Guild thing is awesome. I just got the letter back from their legal team and it was chock full of great information. Although the caveat is the publisher probably doesn't want to negotiate. I will see what I can do. And to be sure, this is the contract with Casemant, the publisher who wants to pay.

I just sent an email to the Casement People asking if there was room to negotiate on their offer. I hope that isn't last communication on the subject.

Good luck. Don't get too greedy.

Remember, only a few really make much money on books. Where you make money as an author is book tours... or movie rights.

I want it all! I was just concerned about the Royalties which seemed low. And I just wanted to make sure the book deal wasn't too onerous. The changes I'm asking for I think are minor. We shall see.

Best of luck!

Book royalties are generally pretty low. Book sales have low mark ups. Book publishing is expensive what with continually rising paper costs coupled with delivery costs do to gas hikes. It's a terrible economic model really.

It just occured to me how much of D00M has been in the book industry. There's our ACWLP crew (including Stacy, KB & PPFY), two award winning writers in the cfs, and me who is too dumb to get out of the publishing business. Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in...

Welcome to the D00M bookie subgenre. Or should I just say subD00M...

Just got the email back. They agreed to many of the things I requested. Some they did not. I might see the contract later today.

Are the compromises satisfactory?

Very. I received more free books. I raised my royalty rates. And I have the theatrical rights.

To be fair, I would have signed the contract if they had said not to everything as well. The victory will always be getting my grandfather's book published. Everything else is frosting.

Mmmm, frosting.
