I used to drive from the Cruz to SF all the time 3 decades ago. Somehow it's gotten longer. With Tara in tow, I had an appointment with WildAid in the financial district and it took us almost 2 1/2 hours to get there. We were late for the appointment, but it was okay. Then over to Civic Center for Phish. We killed some time at the bookstore formerly known as ACWLPB and had a lovely dinner at Ananda Fuara. A shining day in SF, bright, clear and warm.
Tara was amused by the shifts in RM. She's come of age now and is much more interested in what I do there. Joel led an awesome in-service and Tara got how he was the wizard and I was the ninja, comparing and contrasting our teaching methods. She came to the conclusion that old RM were medics who did drugs and new RM are medics interested in drugs but to scared to do them (fairly accurate actually). I got a little pulled into being a sounding board for RM politrix, which was a bit of a bummer, but such is my role there.
I have the oddest relationship with Phish. I imagine they sound to me like the Dead sounds like to non-Deadheads. I still haven't learned their music and I've been working for them for decades now. Like with the Dead, I run into hordes of old friends, people I pretty much only see at Phish. I still luv dancing thru the phishheads and babbling with them.
First set was mellow. Intermission was active, especially because we stationed ourselves at table service, but I didn't get called into service until mid-2nd set for a woman that was actually orientedX4 but peaking on L. I was the only psych because Joel left after teaching. Tara got to join in - the IPR was harmless, remembering our names from the start and constantly telling Tara she was adorable, much to her amusement. We got her hooked up with friends. It was a good talkdown - Tara stayed awake for the entire ride home, energized by the exposure and eager to chat about it.
The only bum out was that a good friend working as an usher got pushed down the stairs and took a big hit. He was okay to drive home, but he's our gen, and one of his meds is courmadin, which is what my dad was on, and when you take a hit on that, you bruise like an old banana. I must check in with him and see how he's doing now.

Quote:Police confirm assaults, seek public assistance Phish Gorge
July 24, 2018

Police confirm assaults,
Seek public assistance from those who attended Phish at the Gorge in Washington over the weekend.
At 4PM EST on July 24th we received this statement from the Sheriff’s Dept in Grant County, WA.
Detectives seeking first-hand witnesses to Gorge assaults during Phish concert
Near GEORGE, Wash. (24 JULY 2018) — Detectives with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office are investigating two assaults which happened during Saturday’s Phish concert at the Gorge Amphitheater near George, Washington.
Sheriff’s deputies were notified Saturday evening of two assault victims who had been brought to the medical tent at the venue. The victims, a 46-year-old man from Washington state and a 38-year-old man from Colorado, each suffered head injuries and were transported to regional hospitals for treatment. One victim is hospitalized in stable condition, the other was treated and released.
What is known so far is that the victims were assaulted around the same time, but at locations far apart from one another inside the concert venue; one victim was down near the stage, the other up high on the hill above. Both victims were struck with rocks. Neither victim can identify their assailant. The victims do not know each other.
Read Chris Lynch’s review of the July 20 show here.
Although there was a great deal of chatter and speculation on social media platforms, detectives are asking anyone who witnessed first-hand either of the assaults to contact the Grant County Sheriff’s Office at 509-762-1160, or send information to crimetips@grantcountywa.gov
UPDATE: From public information office Kyle Forman at 5P on July 26:
“Update — No suspects have been identified. We’re exploring all possibilities but have developed no links. The persons who were involved with the nitrous (including the one seen on social media with the swastika tattoo) were identified and questioned by deputies but not arrested. None of those persons can be linked to the assaults. We’re still asking concert goers to let us know if they witnessed either of the assaults and can describe the suspects.”
From LMNR: Without too much speculation, there has been a lot of reporting about nitrous sales in the parking lot, as well as these attacks inside mentioned above. At this time there does not appear to be any connection between the two. But this is an ever evolving situation and we will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
Today we were in touch with Samir Poles, a victim of assault at the Gorge. He gave us permission to print his story:
Hi Phriends. My name is Samir Poles. I was one of the victims at the Gorge Saturday night. I’ve been going to see my favorite band Phish since 6/24/95. If you knew me at all you would know that I have 00 love for NO2 any way to Sunday. It takes away from the artist/fan merch and brings a shit element to scene. I’m a guitar player who idolizes Trey and goes for the music and the best community on Earth. I was having a great f-n night. I was hanging Page-low as always at the gorge. I thought farmhouse was a good time to take a pee obvi jk.
As I was walking back from the bathroom to meet my friends a really big dude who was waiting in the shadows put a bowling ball sized rock thru my face > I wake up on the ground gushing blood through the whole in my mouth where my teeth used to be. The other victim Joe arrived in the medical tent 2 minutes after me and was very very hurt.
This attack had zero to do with nitrous and was coordinated by at least two men at the exact same time in opposite corners of the venue. I know a lot of people saw it but since the police were never alerted we only have a few witness’s to give statements but the people I did talk to gave an identical description of the guy that hit me as the big muscular nitrous guy they arrested this weekend for dealing in the lot and the guy that hit Joe as smaller and crazed looking.
My friend who saved me and was with me thru to the ambulance gave a statement to security who didn’t even write it down. The reason that you haven’t seen anything reported is because Live Nation never reported the incident to the Police until the next day, never ran after the guy as my friend who witnessed it pointed and screamed for them to as they drug me away and kept asking what drugs I was on. I’m sorry I’m just getting this message out but I got hit in the head with a giant rock and had to Nancy Drew it myself the last few days with a busted face and a jelly fish head. I am meeting with a detective for the first time this morning right before I go into the first of many surgeries I will need to fix my mouth.
If anyone saw anything – either my attack page-low bathroom’s or Joe’s assault Mike side high please PM me or contact the Grant county Police department. I was gonna be on with all of you! thru SF but that’s for sure not happening now Hoping to be mostly recovered and back Phishin’ by festival 11 with all y’all my amazing Phriends and Pham ![[Image: 1f49c.svg]](https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/2.4/svg/1f49c.svg) All Love Shine A Light
There is a fundraiser going for Samir’s medical expenses here.

The Gorge was just prior to SLA.

I’m booked for Tuesday. There’s an exclamation point next to the RM listing which means they’re in desperate need of gold. Might be another skeleton crew but I doubt there will be too big of a crowd.
I can’t do Wednesday. That’s Stacy’s root canal day.

Less than 2 hours until call time and I get 2 emails from RM
#1 Cloth masks won't work - they must be up to Hr360 mandate minimum. Dammit. Gotta swing by the drug store next.
#2 We are required to have downloaded and completed the Healthy Together app on our phones.
Remember Bobby? Here let me refresh you:

After about a half hour of frustrated attempts with the photo function, I switched entry modes. As much as I did NOT want to, I allowed the app to access my Kaiser records. Now it's waiting for results. It said it may take around 1 minute, but it's been several.
Fuck this app.
I did get the app to work for that show however, and figured I was good to go for Cypress Hill ( http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...8#pid49518 )
But I wasn't. Turned out you had to update the app each time. But I flashed my vax card and was good to go. They didn't even make me walk through the metal detector. Perhaps they heard about my epic save at Bobby. Next time, better be some red carpet (they did have excellent soyriso nachos, so we're good).
Earlier this morning I tried to download the BottleRock app but I need the new OS (I got an iPhone 6 that sorely need updating). However, this new app downloaded easily. SLA is Live Nation.
So I'm almost good to go. I just need that damn mask.

Expected Attendance: 8,000 Tues / 8,500 Wed
Demographic – 25-54 years old, 70% Male
Parking Lots Open – 4:30PM (ready to open earlier as needed)
Venue Gates Open – 5:30PM
Show Starts – 7:00PM
Event Ends – 11:00PM
Shoreline holds 22.5K, so it's a little more that a third full.
Found a surgical mask in my car. That's solved.
Maybe I'll wear my cool Mortal Kombat mask on top.

Trejos tacos is no more. Having a sad.
Some phishhead walked up to the pizza counter next door, barfed, then got his pizza and left. The puddle is right in front of the ordering window. I told the vendors. Nothing sells like a puddle of barf. Phukkin phishheads.
A phishhead just strolled past with his two Pomeranians. I don’t think poms like Phish concerts. Phukkin phishheads.

Took a break with nurse Audrey to catch some music (the band is still tight) only to be called back for an ipr.
She was a dark haired beauty with a black tutu, ankle boots and long shiny legs. We talked for an hour but I failed to get any info, not even her name. She kept reaching for me in a flirtatious way, once even wrapping her legs around me, which would’ve been more amusing if not for covid. I couldn’t make any headway, too bewitched by her vibing, and we finally got her to agree to go to the hospital. The paramedics got her name right away. Nothing like a 6+ft Dude in uniform. Can’t win them all... notably we all guessed her in her 30s but when that paramedic got her to give him her purse, her id said 50.
Deflated by my wasted hour, I caught the encore with a first timer Med student who was a deadhead - he gave me a cool sticker of a dead dancing bear in scrubs. Cool dude - we hopped out on the concourse. His name was Sam and I hope we cross paths again soon.
It was phun to be back at sla for some phishin.

Footnote: Live Nation shows do NOT require proof of vax or a covid test unless requested by the artist. The opening country show was not vaxxed nor was the 2nd at sla. Phish requested it plus a test for everyone going backstage prior to going back. RM handles that and they did get 1 positive. He was double tested and sent to the hospital.
Not sure I’ll do my sla. Kiss maybe. Maybe not. Half the band got it and had to cancel shows and they are requiring vax but I’m already feeling like I’m doing too much rm in sept and it’s not worth the risk.
None of the Levi’s football games are vaxxed.
RM is requiring medical masks for all vols. No cloth.

Tragic...
The Phish show at the new Chase Center in SF hit the news. The news report was overly graphic. According to witnesses, there were 2 incidents: an apparent jumper and a faller. The jumper died at the scene. One couple reported seeing the jumper in front of them leap. They were so alarmed, they went to the other side of the venue and that's where the other fan lost his footing and fell over the railing.
Another witness was nearly missed by the jumper and, trained as a first responder, tried to assist, but determined it was too late.
The faller and the fan he landed on were both taken to emergency...

I had a friend there who was very close to where the jumper landed.
Rock Med does not cover Chase. I've yet to get in that house. Unofficially, a few of us have been tapped for certain shows, but I've passed that cup by. I don't freelance when there's such potential liability.

For D00M eyes only. This was messaged to me privately, right after the show, from that aforementioned friend:
Quote:I was moved to tip my hat to all of the service you all provide at Rock Med. I spent Sat with the partner of my friend who you responded to at BGC when the man jumped off the balcony and we discussed how she and the other man that was landed on incurred disabilities. I went to Chase center last night (Phish) and was about 5 -10 feet away from a successful suicide landing which was very disturbing. Seeing the medical care provided by law enforcement and emt's (which took a long time to arrive while hippie ER docs attempted CPR) felt so out of place.
The BGC incident was one I worked with Legbone. I wrote that up for KFM: https://www.kungfumagazine.com/index.php...ticle=1025
CF & LCF also appear in that story.

Quote:Phish concert spreads COVID across the entire country
Thom Dunn
Over Halloween weekend, the Vermont jam band Phish played a series of concerts in Las Vegas. Several days later, one attendee posted to Facebook that he had tested positive for COVID-19 — and more than 500 replied, most saying that they or someone they knew had also tested positive after attending the concert.
I've always thought that Phish a contagion, but this is not how I expected that to manifest.
While there's no way to know exactly how many cases came from this string of shows, the Boston Globe did track some of the regional impact of the Vegas event:
Quote:The Vermont health department said it recorded "at least" nine cases potentially linked to the concerts in Las Vegas. Rhode Island is reporting at least five. A Massachusetts health department spokeswoman said the agency had "no knowledge" of confirmed cases linked to the Phish events. But three of five Massachusetts residents interviewed by the Globe said they tested positive days after returning home from the shows. They reported having relatively minor symptoms, though two said they still hadn't recovered their sense of smell or taste. All five from Massachusetts said they were vaccinated.
MGM said Phish fans at its Las Vegas venue were required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test not more than 72 hours before the event. But that allowed a significant gap: fans who tested negative before the first show were not required to retest if they attended the later concerts.
Attendees as far as California reported that they had tested positive as well, according to the Facebook group.
The Globe also spoke with several concertgoers, who noted that the indoor event was tightly packed and poorly ventilated. Some complained about "stagnant air," although, to be fair, that's a fairly common occurrence at any Phish concert. While masks were not required, some concertgoers who voluntarily wore them reported that they did not test positive. Also to be fair, it's harder to smoke copious amounts of weed with a mask on.
'COVID positive from Vegas.' Phish concerts leave a long trail of infections, fans say [Kay Lazar / The Boston Globe]
