Happy Bidet, LB Baloney Pony!
Thanks all. Alaska is definitely aging me. It's not easy to choke a moose. And by that I mean...
People up party till they're almost dead and then come into ER and expect me to bring them back to life.
I did received my first unregistered rifle as a BDAY gift. Very exciting. .454 lever action. Cannon for shooting bears, moose and trespassing tourist.
Our house is nearly complete, we should be moving in mid Dec. Couple spare bedrooms for any wayward adventurers. Lots of sights to see. Best to come after the thaw, though.

Thank you . Had a great birthday. Hit a moose though on the way home. Knocked the Ford emblem off the front of my pick up. Luckily 3 moose were shot in my neighborhood this hunting season and I have a moose liver in the freezer, which I shall eat this weekend. Hope all is well down in the lower 48. It’s was 9 degrees today. Perfect moose liver eating weather.
Alaska and Anchorage have been declared the most dangerous state and city in the US per capita. I am celebrating by building two assault rifles.

HBD brother, wherever you are.
I spent the day in Arcata at the first JM retreat board meeting. Dan is well remembered here. JM sent a gorgeous bouquet to AK for the funeral which Syl said outlasted all the other flowers sent. We toasted Dan at dinner and several fond memories were shared.
Syl texted some of us today.
Quote:Happy Birthday to my big guy in the sky. May his coffee still be french pressed and that morning smile lighting up his eyes.
Miss you Dan

I meant to reach out to Syl for Dan’s Bday a few weeks ago but got slammed by my 4 job juggle and got too distracted. Turns out her mom went into the ER with a rare skin disease that’s extremely dangerous especially with her mom at 91. She’s been in town for the last week tending to her mom - doing 20 hour watches. Thankfully, the hospital recognized her PA and set her up with a cot. Even better, her mom seems to be improving, but things were really touch & go for a while. We’ve been texting, along with been circle of close friends.

Syl's mom passed last night at 11PM. There were signs of improvement, but in retrospect, it seems that was that old 'end of life' moment of lucidity, the 'last gasp'.
I met Syl's mom on several occasions. When I accompanied Dan to be his best man at the surprise Vegas wedding (a family reunion where Syl tricked her family into visiting a Vegas chapel, and then Dan, his dad and kids, and I showed up to surprise them and do the ceremony), we spent the whole weekend partying together. Syl's family is awesome people. They came from England to eastern Canada and Syl was raised on some island without plumbing. A stretch limo bus with stripper pole in the middle was rented to chauffeur us around Vegas. It was wild. I have very fond memories of Syl's dad mounting that pole and her mom reaching for dollars to stuff in his trousers. I remember her as a sweet dear woman, very warm, always asking if I wanted something to drink, a cuppa tea or something stronger.
Syl had taken a break on Sunday to go for a walk with Raz (former Rock Med director and my commanding officer there) and Leigh (his sigO) but then got called back to the hospital because her mom started declining.
Syl is headed down to SJ with her dad today. She'll return to AK this weekend to be with her hounds. They plan a memorial at some later date, hopefully after the pandemic subsides.
We've been texting support, which is how Syl announced this and what she seems comfortable with at the moment.

I am sorry for her loss. I wish she would get a break for a few years.

Saw Syl's fb post and was reminded of today.
When we got together last month at a friend's place, Syl told me the harrowing details of her mom's death. So traumatic. She's been through so much over the last few years. I hope she finds some peace of mind soon.
Meanwhile, I'll drink a shot to Brother Dan tonight. I trust y'all will join me in that, with whatever libations you might have ready.
I'm sure LB is in Valhalla chokin mooses...

Been having a day. I blame Dan.
I've had his pendant on since Halloween but I'll take it off tonight.
HBD Dan.
