Inaugural Haiku

Fine early morning
Ginkgo leaves slowly turning gold
Still seeing the stars
the hands that guide me are invisible

Ginkgo trees are old
Once they were called maidenhair
Such erotic leaves

I took ginkgo pills
For memory improvement
Forgot to take them

Playing an instrument is good for the brain though

It's 5-7-5 people!
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

Haikus by Comedians from The New Yorker, from an upcoming book. My favorite is the one about Bobby Flay.

Flying on Southwest
Trapped in a middle seat between
Two oversized men
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

That's a bad one. I was in the same spot on a flight to Denver once.

Very cold this morning,
walking to the Art Building.
Glad to have my hat.

It occurred to me that people (me anyway) tend to read haikus with equal pauses between lines, but that probably isn't always the way the poets intended.

I do same.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

Reading the haiku? Or wearing a hat? My hair is so thin that I even wear a hat inside at home sometimes.
