Well, the Dickens Faire is pretty much the same as it ever was, sort of the Renn Faire formal where the boys wear suit jackets and top hats instead of fluffy shirts and tights and the girls wear hoop skirts, but still don prop 'em up on a shelf, fatter-the-better, bodices. Expensive to get in, expensive to eat and drink, lame amateur shows, attempts at bawdiness by a whole lot of nerdy people. But the kids liked it. There was a dude selling wands who had his Harry Potter schtick (pun) down. T was impressed by that - the schtick more than the product, but was totally unimpressed by the broom salespeople trying to pawn off some silly brooms as Nimbus 2000s. We brought one of T's classmates, actually a grade under her, who is reading Oliver Twist (at 8!! Progressive schools rock!) There was also a cheerleading contest at the PdeB, which added more costume levity. There was one Steampunk dude that I thought was funny, along with a Dementor ala Harry Potter* and some sort of troll character that made no sense at all, but the girls thought he was funny. They loved watching the candle carvers too. And Punch and Judy. Dm told T P&J was like Tom & Jerry but puppets. She loves T&J and enjoyed P&J.
Dm was searching for old friends and enemies, but he's so far out of those circles now. He knew a few Renn Faire beer wenches (who doesn't?) and there's a sweep he thought he'd kick in the shin for letting a fine institution collapse, but he never found any of them. Dm checked out the fencing booth and realized that even with his broken body, he could clean house there.
*btw, there's a new Harry Potter trailer on the Warner Bros site - http://www.warnerbros.com
