Watched a few more eps. As ST:TNG is to Picard, ST:V is akin to S2 of ST: P.
Unfortunately, and I should know better, I skimmed a review which spoiled a major mcguffin for me. It's not a great mcguffin, but I would not have seen it coming and it may have played out like a pleasant surprise. Or not.
The introduction of cetacean navigators in the animated ST shows is odd. It started as another ST:TLD jokes, and now it's a thing. Doesn't quite work for me if I think about it long enough, but a lot of sci-fi falls apart when you think about it long enough. ST: P is a time travel plot, which is invariably full of paradoxes.
