Surgery is tomorrow afternoon. Looks like there were bone splinters from the kyphoplasty that have been impinging on her nerves. Tomorrow's surgery is more rigorous. That is probably the procedure they should have done initially, but given her age, it was prudent to go with the kypho. If all goes well, she'll be at Good Sam for 3-5 days, then likely back into rehab and the cycle starts all over again. The surgeon said the procedure has only a 3-5% chance of failure, but a larger concern is the anesthetic, which at my mom's age might have a lasting affect.
It was a brutal day. The admission procedure went as smoothly as it could, but my mom was in more pain than ever. No one should have to see their mom in that much pain. Took an IV dilaudid plus oxy to take the edge off. Even then, we couldn't raise the bed all the way so I had to spoon feed her dinner.
This morning brought ill omens. My mom broke a bowl of prunes at breakfast. Then a robin kept trying to get in her window, banging into it repeatedly. My mom said that had been happening for a few days. The same thing happens at our old TC Media office in the spring when the light hits the window in such a way that the birds start flying into it.
