That's not a typo. They put two 'n's in Kinng because of some numerological issue.
So I was supposed to interview Akshay for the last issue. His agents (yes, three actually) contacted me. They sent me pics and asked for questions. I submitted questions, but Akki never answered. Meanwhile, I figured I'd catch up on his films and this was reputed to be one of his best. Honestly, I'd only seen Chandhi Chowk, which was very enjoyable. When I saw that flick, in a theater no less, others in the audience told me I had to see this one. Why not? Snoop Dogg is in it. Seriously.
It's very Bollywood. Happy Singh is a Sikh village idiot. After he destroys the village chasing after a chicken (the film began with a 'no chickens were harmed in this film' disclaimer), Happy is duped into recovering a lost villager named Lucky who has become a major gangster in Australia. He gets lost in Egypt and falls in love with the heroine in a big dance number at the pyramids. Then he accidentally paralyzes Happy and winds up becoming the kingpin of the gang. Oh, and he meets the heroine's mom, who sells lucky flowers to make a living and feeds him when he is starving and lost. She's upset because she told her daughter that she was rich, and she's returning with a cad that she plans to marry and will discover her mom's lie. So Singh sets her mom up at the gang's fortified mansion and the gang plays servants. The hilarity and dance numbers ensue. There's a lot of exalting of Sikh morality, which is interesting. Akki does some mediocre fight scenes, and some decent parkour-like stunts, albeit not as graceful but most likely real, given the scenes. Snoop sings with Singh for the closing credits. I didn't care for the heroine, which kills any Bollywood flick - not sure why, she just didn't do it for me. There's some random amusing moments, and some okay dance numbers, but it took me 4 days to get through 3 hours of this.
I wonder if Akki will ever get back to me with those interview answers...
