From the makers of:
Violent Night = http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...p?tid=7824
Nobody = http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...p?tid=6380
It's another 87 North production, so that means fight scenes. And after Violent Night, it's clear that 87 North is campaigning to capitalize on every holiday. I'm ok with that. This is more of the same. Ultravi.
Ke carries action ok. He has trained. He can move. And he has body doubles for the tough stuff. I suspect this might tarnish his momentum somewhat.
My main reason to see this in the theaters was Daniel Wu, of course, and he hams it up as the villainous brother. That was amusing - too 2D for his talents - but he's always drinking boba and that struck me as acute, if overdone. He wasn't choreographed well, but that was in part due to the fact that he ultimately has to lose to Ke and Ke doesn't have Danny's fight skills.
The fight choreo has its moments. It's mostly one action = one shot stuff. There are several dynamic birdseye shots of a whirling Ke stuntdouble with an unconvincing wig and tighter build taking out a circle of surrounding thugs. There are some amusing fight gags but nothing astonishingly new here. If anything, it's more of the same and the trailer spoils way too much, even though it was all rather predictable. Nevertheless, it's destined to become my fav valentines movie.
Not overly D00M recommended. Wait until it comes to platform you can stream.
