TCEC 2024 - May 4-5 - San Jose

Lies! Greg was droning to his hearts delight, so much so that the union barrier deliverers wanted to know where they could see the video.

Load in went well, as good as it ever does, maybe a bit better because the crew came together really well. We had less rings and the union guys, although poorly timed, were earlier.

The banquet was the smallest ever. I drove Grace & Chad. There was some mix up about two other riders who we thought were three but it got sorted.

Got back to the hotel. Had a nitecap with John & Emilio. Now watching some doc on Star Wars, awaiting my sedatives to take me down.

I did fly the drone in the hall, protected by the No Fly Zone from the metal structure. Or maybe things are just weird. Banquet was successful in that I pushed around a bunch of masters, growled at the editor of a Chinese Newspaper trying to get in my way, made a mess of the table layouts in the World Gourmet Buffet restaurant, and took a bunch of pictures. Also, finally received the Hard Drive, which I am now reformatting for Mac at 3:40. Sleep is for the weak.

I'm currently trying to figure out how to maximize my six cameras as well as film a video interview and upload it today for a big announcement.

Sleep is for the weak.

Put the phone down? Then I just stare into the dark. Turns out my window faces the neon sign for the Saint Claire directly.

Time to don the 3-piece and do some qigong.

I did six miles before I drove to San Jose. Pick up the pace!

I win for being first at the venue. Nice and brisk.

That was enough fun for the weekend. I say we skip tomorrow.

The videos went from Victor to Johnny to reviewed and Johnny never reviewed them. Victor won't upload until that happens.

It's 2:25. I should probably text DM.

Afterparty went just past midnight and the tequila was dodged.

Slept right up until 6, exactly when I was planning to wake.

Still a little drunk (dammit Emilio!) but not off balance.

Day 2…

Next time let the monks fight. Or at least call the video crew over.

Too busy wedging myself in between them to call anyone.

It pleases me that our first National Shaolin Kung Fu Games was authentic.

Odd flashback - When I put on my 3-piece (which I only wear for TCEC or very formal events like weddings and such - and I haven't been to one of those in a while), I found a casino chip in the pocket. It was tripping me out - thought someone at the dry cleaners took my suit for a night out. I just noticed the website on it and it's to an event that TKD master Lion Choi threw. He must have given me the chip last year. Mystery solved.

I am quite sore physically. Walked 6 miles on Friday & Saturday, a little over 5 on Sunday.

Only got 1 sleep cycle in on Friday, got a solid 6+ hours on Saturday.

Drank a lot of whiskey plus a shot of rum.

Did some heavy lifting for the load in, but managed to avoid it for the rest of the weekend mostly.

It’s sauna time tonight.

And maybe more whiskey. Hair of the dog, doncha know?
