Life in Lynch Lair at Wildcat Station
Fire update! At this point the fire is 96% contained. The money to fight the fire ends when they reach 100% so it might be some time before it is 100% "contained"

The closest the fire got to the house was 2.33 miles. Fortunately the Chowchilla rivers sits between us and the fire location so we were good on that front. As we drove to the market on Sunday, we passed a lot fo the burn areas. None of the burn were to the south of Road 600. It was all to the north. Road 600 acted as a fine impediment to the fire. According to the reports 6 houses were lost along with 6 structures. Another 6 houses were damages. I think that owes a lot to our fire crews and the fact there weren't a lot of houses in the burn area.

Another fact about the fire was that it seemed mostly to have burned the grasses around the tree and trees remained unscathed so it was kind of like a large grass fire in that sense rather than a forest fire. tQ and I will drive around later this week to see more of the burn are to see if this thesis holds true.

Tragedy narrowly averted.

Thank goodness you all are safe.

I'm now reminded of the Yeti's suggestion to pave everything in your property.

I forgot to mention we are currently on a storm warning advisory. A monsoon flow is blowing from the south bringing with it the chance for dry lightning strikes all over the Sierras. Good times!

Bummer.

I just got news about the flooding in Henan. A friend posted a pic of the Shaolin Wushuguan staircase cascading with torrential rains. It's like the climate is changing... right now.

Similar images coming out of Germany. Floods so bad Merkel made a visit. But how can there be Global Warming if there still is snow?

And the floods in Arizona...

The flooding in Hena caused an aluminum factory to explode

'Global warming' was such a failed label. The consequential 'global dimming' did not work as an addendum. Changing that to 'climate change'

Our power has now been out for five and a half hours. The house is getting warmer. PG&E says the power should be on in another hour. They've been saying that all day.

It's deja vu, again. Our power went off at noon. They won't restore it until 8pm. Good times.

At least you can post here.

YMAA set me up with a reserve battery that keeps my Mac going for a half hour or so if the power goes out. We have brown outs all the time. So does my boss who lives in rural NH. It got tested recently and worked well. Unfortunately the outage affected my internet provider so even though my router was fine, there was nothing to route. But I didn’t lose any work so that’s good.

Country living. Every time this happens, I think about getting battery backup for the solar panels.

Starting the day without power. Something bad happened on the Raymond Rd. Power is supposed to be restored by 7:15.

Our router has a backup battery good for a few hours. Our power outage kit is a small battery (will charge phones and such), two battery lanterns and two battery fans. Once we got this stuff we haven't had to use it.

tQ and I decided to go out and visit the Mariposa museum while waiting for the power to be restored. We also ate breakfast at Happy Burger. We arrived back at noon and moments later the power was restored. Huzzah! I hunkered down to watch a baseball game and relax for the rest of the day. In the bottom of the 5th inning, the power went out again. Our notification said it would be restored around 2am on Sunday. What is the opposite of huzzah? tQ and I spent the day reading and napping and trying to figuring out what we were going to do. A lot of our neighbors on Facebook on furious. They had already lost food in their refrigerators. One woman was on 24 hour oxygen and didn't have enough backup bottles to make it through.

Our poor neighbor, who works for PG&E was up at 4am firing up his generator. His girlfriend tried to explain the situation to the local FB group. It did not go well. There was a lot of talk about how people should buy generators because power outages are just going to keep happening. My less well off neighbors were not happy with that solution. Plus you need a lot of gasoline if your power is going to be off for an extended period of time. For us to get battery backups for our Solar Panels, which is another option, would cost about $9k. If I ever achieve liquidity again or a cash flow, that is probably the way for us to go.

Fortunately the power was restored at 7:45. I think our food was just on the edge of spoiling, but we made it a point not to go into the refrigerator all day.

$9K ouch! How much is a gas generator? It would be an intermediary fix.

The opposite of Huzzah is Feck.
