The Web of Death (1976)
#1
How the heck did this classic SB flick get past me? This is an astoundingly campy absolutely wonderful wuxia from the Golden age of Shaw. My lawd. It's the wulin dealing with the ultimate Kung Fu WMD - a spider no less. But not just any spider - a tarantula that roars like an elephant and shoots acidic webs, sparks and death rays. TWoD has everything - crazy weapons, cross dressing, romance, complex set pieces, halls of traps including acid pits, spiked poles and dragon-headed sparkler cannons, silly superheroes and villains in costumes that would make Marvel comicheroes blush. And sword fights. Mad sword fights with flaming weapons! No bollywood dances or dogs though. But otherwise, it is a perfect film, a real treat for anyone into cheesey over-the-top Kung Fu cinema. Totally DOOMworthy!

Another Flying Five Finger One Armed Eight Pole Shaolin Exploding Death Touch Thursday feature on El Rey.
